How about some .35's

I swear, just when I think I have it licked, you throw the 35-348 into the mix!

Yeah, and you should see the ballistics data on this. QL makes me want to push this one out the door quickly.

Scott -
Have you seen the data on this cartridge?...Once you take the taper out out of it and give it the 40 degree shoulder angle, it is incredible! It is the way to go if you want a model 71.

Alright you son of a guns. You know as well as my Credit Union that I can't get into another rifle just yet and you are not helping my affliction to really nice lever rifles!

Joel, I cannot imagine what a hammer the 35-348 would be. All I know is it would be something to handle and talk about a moose rifle.... Heck, weren't you saying something about trading your BLR for an M71??

Kurt, the 358 Norma and 35-375 Ruger seem pretty neat to me for the bolt rifles. I just so happen to have a Ruger MKII 300WM that needs a proper job.

Gerry, that Whelen looks really awesome. Still gotta give all the kudo's to the Whelen, that is the cartridge that started it all in my world. Just a hammer on game. Scotty

Some cool rifles in here guys! Dr. Mike love those Winchesters! I sure like the .358 Norma on paper but to be honest I don't know how I would tolerate the recoil. I'm sure it isn't an every day range rifle that is for sure. Now does anyone have an STA to show off?

What's taking you so long to get it done? How about a Pac Nor 1 in 12 twist stainless?

Nothing really holding me up. I think a PacNor 1-12 would be awesome for this build. Just not sure which cartridge I wanna go with just yet. I kinda like that Ruger case a bunch. Still have some time. Might make it a Winter project. Scotty

No 35's here at present,,,sure wouldn't mind a 99 in a .358.
Or a Whelen barrel for the Encore

you guys got to quit  I do not know if I can stand waiting the length of time I have to but when I get my new toy I will post lots of photos or I should say that I will email them to Mike and then beg him to post them for me. Or maybe when he is breaking in the barrel I get him to take some photos so I can see what it looks like before they send it to me

Blessings,
Dan

Gerry that lefty of your is a beaut. Where did you pick that up it is unique?

Seems to me that a lot of people like the .358 bore but we don't see very many. So how about a picture post to show what you have? At the very least it will be some good gun porn!

Here is my favorite .358 Win Savage 99A brush gun.

Man love those 99's!

I don't know how I overlooked my 673 chambered in 350 Remington Magnum. It is topped with a Vari-X III 3.5-10 X 40.

Scotty,

I'll try to get up some pictures.

I had it made at Corlanes about 12 years ago I believe thats where you are getting your gun made. It has been a good gun for me.
Sako L691
King stainless 1 in 12
Browns precision stock

If I did it today I would have a Rem 700 or Ruger 77 stainless in a Mcmillan stock which is tougher than the Browns. The King barrel is good but I don't think they are made anymore so would go with a Pac Nor SS.

That's a beauty! What was your load?
I have an old Faig Mauser in .358NM and hope to get it out to the range soon.
75 gr H4350 with an older style 250gr Hornady SP.
My old chrono says 2820 fps my new one says 2905 fps. According to all the load data I see I think I'm doing 2820 fps.
They don't make that bullet anymore it's been redesigned and now it's the SP-RP.
It doesn't hold up as well in the 358 Norma velocities.
When I run out of these I'll switch to the 250 NPT

Yes I am getting the Pac-Nor super match in the stainless 1-14. I am having the barrel powder coated :)
It has the defiance action and the H-S detachable clip system with a McMillan Hunter stock.
Mike help me make my choices and he does know a thing or 2 about RMRs.
Thanks for the background my friend.

Blessings,
Dan

Bevan makes barrels for a few rifles each year. They are highly treasured. You got a shooter in that rifle, that's for sure.

Dan,

You may have gotten the Pac-Nor I ordered. I am not certain, but I had two barrels--a Hart and a Pac-Nor. I said I would be happy with either. I may have gotten the Hart and you got the Pac-Nor. I have several Pac-Nor barrels, and I've shot quite a few. They are an excellent barrel. You're going to like your rifle.

Nice, Doc. I wouldn't mind picking up a .350, in either a 673 or a 700 Classic.

Man, what a nice bunch of 35's! Holy smokes. Seems like they are kinda coming back around to favor with more and more hunters.

Randy, hope you get a chance to try the 250gr PT's, they shoot really well in my Whelen at around 2600 and some change. Scotty

Man love those 99's!

I looked at a few M99 358's and man, you had better be packing a large wallet! Those are truly some spendy rifles for a decent one. Love them a bunch, but for now, I will have to suffer with my BLR. Scotty

I'll admit I kind of stole this rifle from the previous owner. He was looking for a more common chambering to hunt with than this Savage 99. I talked him out of it for a .30-06 Remmy 700 ADL with J-Lock, Leupold VX-III mounted in QR bases and rings, and $300 cash. It took a ton of talking but I figure I got it right at $1K which was at least $200 less than I could find one anywhere else.

Yeah, I would say so. The nice ones, like yours are always up over 2,000USD when I see them. You can buy less nice ones, but for one like yours, you got a screamer of a deal. Scotty
