Hunt here?

Last time I was there... It took me three days to walk in. Believe I can do it in two, if I plan a more direct approach. A remote lake, high up in the Cascades here in Washington.

Fishing was very good. I think the fish were lonely and bored, the way they attacked the fly I tossed their way.

Saw bear, a big one. Saw mule deer. Well worthwhile. Saw mountain goat. Awesome. Don't have a tag for them.

So... Backpack in and hunt? Say I nail something... Then what? Would you go in there? Three days walking to get to the place last time. I "think" I can cut that to two...

Set aside enough time to permit walking in and packing out. The solitude and beauty make the experience like rejuvenation for the soul. The experience alone will add years to your life!

Certainly a beautiful spot, and I would love to "pack" in there!. But considering it would take more time to get a harvested animal out. I would likely look at the use of at least one horse or mule.

That is beautiful country, Guy! As Dave mentioned, I would go in with 2 horses. One for you and the other for packing and companionship to your horse.

Guy,

Beautiful! What is amazing is that this spot is within the boarders of the US.
I would "Have to" hunt there.

Guy, just being there is good enough. Getting to hunt and harvesting an animal would be a bonus.

Cell phone would be useless there anyway...

It is high, remote, beautiful country. Thoroughly enjoyed my backpacking & fishing trip through the area. Have wanted to get back and hunt it, but... A horse or a mule to pack out the kill would be very important.

Packing my own gear for a week was work enough, I came in over that ridge behind the lake in the photo. Good stuff.

No helicopters allowed, except for emergencies. It's in a Wilderness area. I like that. Quite a few places like this, I hunted one not so remote last year. It was only a one day hike in.

beautiful and quiet, the old trappers called that kind of country the 'high and lonely" I didn't see Mt St Helens or Ranier in the background however.

Both of these places are well north of Ranier or St. Helens...

Think Glacier Peak Wilderness & Pasayten Wilderness - I like being in those places...

There is nothing quite like being at eye level with the goats and the sheep. It is a high in its own right. Guy, that is some beautiful valley. I'll bet the fishing was good. Out of curiosity, were there any golden trout in the lake? I never caught one and always wanted to work a lake where they were resident.

Cutthroats only near as I could tell. I like that. Those eager cutts make me feel like a Fly Fishing King!

Mind you, cutts are a worthy opponent on a fly rod or on ultralight tackle. It does sound as if the game is undisturbed, and that makes hunting a joy.

Awesome picture Guy. I would be in there in a heartbeat. Looks to be worth the hunt to get back in that area. If you have the time, that looks really awesome. Scotty

Hey Guy,
That is a gorgeous spot! It doesn't look like a real big basin, so my only precaution would be you might want to not camp in it, if you have a choice. Camp smells, noise, horses can all push the game. Or not! Elk tracks right through camp overnight happen sometimes. Even so, I'd try to figure a place to camp and a way to sneak in there. Hope it's all yours when daylight breaks on your first day in!
