Me and my buddies are going on a guided pig hunt next month. Just to make it more challenging, I plan on using either my DE 44 mag or my 35 Remington TC. There's not much unleaded bullet choice out there. Don't have much time to develop load for both handgun either. Stupid Kalifornistan law :evil: Any recommendation guys!

HI Desert Fox,
I would opt for the larger cal. Taken a lot of hogs with my .44 mag, but with lead.

Good luck and good hunting;

If you can't shoot lead, the only thing I can think of is Barnes. They make a couple of .44 handgun bullets. I have no experience with them, but if they act like other Barnes bullets, they will prove effective, despite being a little light for caliber.

I have taken a couple hogs with my 44 mag using the 250 gr PT. I also shot one with a 309 JDJ (similar to a 308 Win) in a TC Contender. with a 165 gr TSX bullet. Impressive kill for sure.

Barnes is your best bet for lead free bullets.

Any luck finding unleaded ammo yet DF? One would think unleaded 44mag would be easier to find than 35 rem

barns also makes a 200 gr bullet in 35 cal. and me being a singlshot guy I would give it a try . If you lived closer to me I 'd let you borrow my ,270 encore , it shoots e-tips well enough.Where exactly are you hunting?

Thanks Bud! That's kind of you to offer.

I live in the Inland Empire here in Southern Cal. We will be hunting around Paso Robles. I still have time to find load for the 44.

Hey Desert Fox,
I went to school at Cal Poly. You hunting at Hunters Ligette (sp?)

Didn't do much hunting down there, but it is known as a good area.

Hardpan----When were you at poly? I was there 1972-76. What was you major? Mine was animal science(ag) and to be an Ag teacher.
We use to hunt behind the swine unit for deer and target shoot on top of Questa grade. Shot my first full auto rifle up there. An M16.

I graduated Poly in '81 with BS computer science. My wife (fiancee) graduated with an animal science degree. Never hunted deer down there, just varmints. BTW, her maiden name was Christine Morgensen.
Hardpan.
