I am Tired - Going To Simplify Life

I also am down to four and if I absolutely had to I guess I could choke that down to two. God forbid going to one....................
But do have the powders down to 4 as well; thank goodness.

Always have a dozen boxes loaded for each caliber, and enough brass/primers/bullets to load another dozen boxes for each. Any gun that will shoot a 1-1 1/2" group is fine for us and we spend approximately 250 days every year in the woods or on the water . Could have made alot more money with a different path in life but always wanted this one!

Nice... A lot of guys will never understand this.

Grew up as a small town kid from the Midwest and after school got into the Pulp and Paper "Rat Race" up and down the I-5 corridor on the West coast for 20 years. Hunting season consisted of about 4 days in the field toward the end, fishing was a bit more. Woke up one morning and decided enough is enough. Money is defiantly not every thing!

Found a job in Idaho, took a $20K cut in pay, sold house and moved.

In the woods about 40 - 50 days a year and fishing about 70 -100 days a years. Kids just love it here. Been here about 9 years now and never looked back. Daughter graduated and moved "back home" to the west side of WA and after two years moved back here and finishing college. She plans on never leaving again.

So.... YEA! Some of us hit that part in our lives to "simplify". I call it getting my priorities straight.

I have been trying to get there myself,,,up to a point  At least on condensing powder numbers. I still have some guns that are over-lapped somewhat however. But that is where I also find one load for each, in regards to bullet weight. Each has a specific set parameters, for specific use. I don't mess with 2-3 loads/bullets weights for each gun.

I not too long ago, got back into straight walled pistol cases. That has me still not totally set on a powder in that arena. It's between H-110 or 2400. For my needs, 2400 is a bit more versatile, so I will likely stay with it.
Other than say the 2400, I still need 4 other powders. Besides the 2400, there are RL-7, Varget, H4350, RL-25.
With that, the big bore stuff gets loaded with cast I make myself, NPT's for the others, with NBT's for the small bore.

I really like TiteGroup because it burns the same in any case capacity in any position supposedly. I have found it to be very predictable in my chrono even when subjected to canting and large case with relatively low densities (i.e. .45 Colt). Velocities for defense loads in non magnums are good. Just my take.

There is a lot to say about keeping life simple and I am fast gravitating to that way of thinking and practice. I have decide that W760 is my powder for my 7mm08 and Tac for my 358Win which are my two favorite go to rifles at this time. In fact, I believe I am really worn out from years of reloading and I am wanting to concentrate on hunting now more than even in the past. I have MRP, IMR4350, RL-22 for the 300's and 30-06's, other than that the rest of my powders or put up in a cabinet.

If had to start over today for all my hunting the 358win and 7mm08 would do everything I need. Maybe a 270WSM if I where to hunt more open county again. And just because its my CLASSIC cartridge the 35Rem. I think the VX3 1.75-6, the VX3 2.5-8 and a VX2 1-4 would work just right.
For small bores the 221Rem and 223 Rem for fun target shooting and varmits. And five powders not counting the maybe 270.

If you do not mind sharing your 358win TAC loads for 225gr and 200gr. As I remember H4895 and TAC produced the same 2430fps with 225gr PT's and GK's. I have done more with H4895 and should work with TAC more to see how it does. I had the 700 with a 20.5" #3 shilen barrel.

For the 225gr AccuBond in a Ruger hawkeye blue/wood 22" barrel, understanding that I consider these max loads for my rifle, please start two grains lower, use with all loads CCI 250 mag primers. Tomorrow I will be at the range to verify these loads because it will be in the 50's so these are subject to a final tweaking due to changing my OAL. and will let you know the most accurate load.

Tac - 49grs - 2525fps

Varget - 49grs - 2490-2510gps

H4895 - 46.5grs - under 2500fps

BL-C2 - 51grs - under 2500fps

W748 - 48.5grs - under 2500fps

Hey, I just thought about something, guys, I am not reverting back, these were already loaded, so I might as well shoot them.

did not make it to the range today, will possibly tomorrow and confirm the 358win loads accruacy and velocities.

Bullet, to help alleviate your wife's stress while you are out backpacking, have you considered a "Spot" person locator beacon? They are fairly cheap considering.... I started backpacking during archery season about 5 years ago. My wife was a nut case when I returned home from that first trip. I felt pretty bad. Before the next trip, I purchased the Spot. I sent her a message in the morning and in the evening to let her know that I was ok. We both love it. And God forbid anything should happen, there is a distress button that calls in to forest service.

Now that is cool. Where does on purchase this item. Interesting indeed.

Mike I too subscribed to your school of thought.

I am selling a bunch of bees!

Yes makes sense to me, I am likely going to go to 2 rifles. I am even thinking of getting rid of my SBE and buy something cheaper. I have not use the shotgun more that 2 times a year for last 3 or 4 years.
Hard to bring myself to do this

Blessings,
Dan

The Spot personal locator beacon can be purchased at lots of different places: Cabelas, Bass Pro, Sportsmen's Warehouse, etc. I believe that once you have made the purchase, it is good for life. No annual fees. It is very small: Dimensions: 3.7"L x 2.6"W x 1"H.
Weight: 5.2 oz. Cabela's has it on sale for $100
