I needed to kill a couple hours while out traveling this week and found a Cabela's in Michigan to visit...BIG mistake  . A Sako Vixen in .222 has been on my "want" list for about 10 years. Most have been too expensive or pretty beat up. This one met all my criteria to purchase.

Had to break out the Halifax crystal and Irish sprits to celebrate...

Shall we talk about a trade for that Finn-wolf??

That is a low blow buddy!

Joel: it's official, I hate you. :) Nice find. I'd tell you to let me know when you move it, but I'm sure you never will get rid of her.

Man that is on my list too!

Congrats!

How long is your list?     Cool find

I was excited until I saw that Redbreast. Sign me up for the Dalmore as my choice.

Sweet rifle, nice find!

Joel, that is sweet and in super condition, congratulations for a great score on a super LN Classic Sako rifle! I am jealous.

Joel make sure you bring that with you when you come out this way, I am sure we can work something out. nice find and keep your eyes open for a varmint model in .222. Not a huge fan of commercial rifles but that is one I have always wanted.

Thats very nice indeed! If I could have only one varmit cartridge it would be a triple duce. Yes I worded that strange because I could not find a 222rem but the 222rem would do every thing I actual need in a varmit cartridge and it is classic. Sako and 222rem you should be pleased indeed.

Please list your loads once you develope them.

Joel that is a great rifle & the caliber is loads of fun
Keeps us informed with range reports.

Blessings,
Dan

Joel

Congratulations again on an awesome find.

The pictures are nice but it looks much better in person.

Joel, first off. I hate you!

2nd, that is an awesome score.. Just rubbing salt in the wounds you give me!

It looks very nice to me.

Scotty, you are in the same boat with me and your Alaskan! Step carefully until the sting is resolved!(LOL)

Thanks guys, got a set of dies when I visited JD338 the other day and will be pickig up Lapua brass for it today. I'm not sure what powder will end up being used, but do have a lot of benchmark in the cabinet. I'm thinking some 50 grain BT's will be the bullet to start with. There are some 40 grainers on the shelf as well. There won't be much time for load work this fall due to hunting that starts in a couple weeks. This is really a sweet little light rifle and should be fun to try and get to shoot.
Has anyone on the forum shot one of these rifles? It has a pressure point near the front of the forearm and I am wondering how it shot with the pressure point.

Jeff -
I will bring it with me, but don't know if we will have time to shoot it much with all the other rifles we will be trying to get on those steel targets. You might have to keep it while I'm hunting elk and test it on some yotes  .

That rifle is an absolute stunner! I use IMR 3031 in my .204 Ruger (.222 Mag case) and it burns clean and I get <1/2 inch groups in my CZ 527. Those Sako, .222 small frame actions and rifles have always been stellar accuracy performers for a factory sporter. I had a "Vixen", Sako .222 Mag, with heavy varmit barrel, some many years ago. It shot everything that I put in it, even back in the 1970's whan factory ammo was not as good. You should do just great with that rifle.

That is a great find Joel. I use to hunt with a guy that had one just like that. Back then I was shooting a .22-250, and thought I had more of advantage....I did somewhat, but he was deadly accurate with that .222. I seen him drop many a yotes with it, but the most impressive was a trotting yote at 530 yds..
I don't recall if he made any adjustments to the stock/forend pressure points Joel. He shot 50gr. BT's out his. Don't recall also, what powder he used.
