A new in box Rem 700 Classic in 257 Roberts. Since it isn't going to remain in its current NIB condition once I get my hands on it...

Still have to shop for glass.

Any load suggestions would be appreciated. I've only managed to find one bag of Winchester brass so far, but at least that'll get me started. I've got 110 grain Accubonds and 115 grain Partitions and a good selection of powders.

Sounds like a great score! Those are some very nice rifles and most of the guys around here that have them, are shooters.

I think the H4831, RL22, RL19 and similar would work well for that rifle. The 257 Roberts doesn't lag behind the 25-06 by much at all, and what a trim carrying package!

Pictures are a must!

What are you thinking of for scopes?

Man, what a great find! Congratulations! I would likely be experimenting with both the 110 AB and the 115 PT to find what the rifle digested best. A hefty charge of RL19 should be your huckleberry with the 110 grain AB. Powders that give similar burn rates work well with the 115 grain PT. Take a good look at IMR4350 if you have it available. Again, very neat find.

I'd say you just aquired a very fine rifle, in a very classic caliber! I loved mine(getting rebarreled in 257 AI).
Mine liked IMR 4350 and H414.

Work up to this load. 48.5 grains of Reloder 22 with a 110 Nosler AccuBond, Federal large rifle primer, Remington case. 2.96" OAL. Should yield you 3050 fps or so out of the Remington 700 classic. Mine does. It will be a slightly compressed load. Mine shoots around 1/2 inch with this load. Is yours the initial blue version or the later stainless steel.

Thanks All!
With the exception of 7828, I have all the powders mentioned, it's nice to be well stocked!
Bruce, it's the blued version, from 1982 I think.
I do feel kinda bad about planning to shoot a rifle that someone kept unfired, in its box for 30+ years. I'll let you know how long it takes me to get over that. :)
I'm thinking of putting a 3-9 Nikon Monarch 3 on it, but I'm not sure yet. I'm open to suggestions but it's probably going to be a <$400 scope.

A 3x-9x is a good optic for the Bob. I've used mine with a 6x Leupold for many years and found it balanced and handled very well. If you want different loads to try, do the same specs as I listed earlier with the Reloder 22 but substitute 48 grs of H-4831sc. It'll push 3100 also.

About one trigger pull, I'd guess...

I managed to trade for another 100 pieces of new brass this morning. :)
It really is hard to imagine how something like brass for a .257 Roberts can be in such short supply. I bought the dies and .25 caliber bullets months ago, guess I should have been looking for brass too.

Tell me about it! I've been looking for Nosler or Norma brass for months.

Congrats! Should definitely be a shooter!

I have 2 Classics. A 25-06(1990) and a 220 Swift(1992). Both are extremely accurate. The 220 Swift is the most accurate gun I own, or have ever owned!

One good way to get brass is to buy Nosler 110 AccuBond ammunition seconds. On SPS periodically, Nosler offers seconds or overrun ammo for the Roberts at good prices for a box of overstocks at about $21.00/box. Considering what Nosler brass costs, this is a bargain! Plus, you can shoot the ammo to get the brass.
