I know I said I wasn't buying any Remingtons for a while...

But I think I put the qualifier of 'new' Remingtons.

I don't think this qualifies as 'new'.

I've wanted a Holland's Super .30 for as long as I can remember. When I found one, I didn't have the money. When I had the money, I couldn't find one. I couldn't talk Nolan's great uncle out of his great grandfather's when Jim died, even though, as far as I can tell, Steve is neither a shooter or hunter.

It has an old Leupold 4x post and duplex on it, that will probably be replaced with a VX II LR Duplex. I need to figure out what I'm going to do about mounts. I don't think Talley's will look right, and I don't like the one piece Redfield mount that's on it.

I guess the .243 is going to have to wait for a bit.

That is one fine looking rifle! I love some of those older classics like the 300 H&H.

Nice score.

That is SAWEEEET!! I imagine you already have dies and brass? Keep it classic with the glass, base and rings if you change things out.

Actually, I don't have dies or brass yet, and I was a bit taken aback when I saw how much factory ammo is for it. I'll probably shoot the Federal Premium FL with the 180 Partitions for five boxes or so, then maybe pick up some 200 Partitions to load.

Interestingly, Redding Dies are cheaper than RCBS. And I didn't see that Forster made any.

BK,

Very nice, Congratulations on the original 30 cal magnum.

Thanks, JD!

I need to put a little thought into what my plans are with this rifle. Just use it as-is? Re-stock in one of the AI stocks Scotty posted, or maybe a CDL stock, or maybe a McMillan? Refinish the original stock? The bluing is pretty worn, so I think I might get it Ceracoated in something that looks like a satin bluing. Definitely getting a new scope and mounts, and I need to ponder on whether I should bother replacing the front sight... it looks to have either been ground off (poorly) or snapped.

That's a great acquisition. I'm certain it'll be fun just owning it, and shooting will be icing on the cake.

Kurt! That is a great score man. I would have picked it up as well. That 300 H&H is an awesome cartridge and that rifle looks to be in great shape! Man, tune that old rifle up and get it out. It needs to get hunted with. With the metal Cerrakoted and maybe some work on that stock it would be one awesome rifle. Great grab. Scotty

Great gun, the 300 h&h is on my want list, but on my wait list till I have more money than good sense. Again great gun. 8)

There will be plenty of .243 options to choose from later on. When something like this comes up, jumping on it is the right thing to do.

Great discovery; looking forward to the range report!

It's funny, I'm having a hard time buying a .243... every time I try to, something else comes up; .300 H&H, 7-08.

I fondled a LE 700 CDL-SS in 6mm Friday. It was very nice!

Doh! I just figured out what mounts I am going to use! I bought some rings and bases from Williams Firearms a couple of months ago, and I think this is the perfect application for them!

Those look really nice Kurt! Man, that 300 is going to be pretty nice when you are done I bet! I could not turn down a 300 H&H either. Very cool and classic cartridge. Scotty

Kurt I envy you my friend. I too bought a Remington Model 721 this year only mine was in 270 WCF caliber. Just as I got it shooting well with select handloads, my nephew went and graduated high school. Haha and he didn't have any kind of centerfire rifle of his own so...I guess you all know where this goes from here.

I dearly wanted one in 300 H+H Mag though, that is a classic that I have always wanted to own especially in a Remington 721. What do you plan to do with that old Leupy scope on there?

fj4e: I am not really sure. May sell it (though I don't think it's worth much), may build a coffee table display for my old ammo boxes, reels, and other antique outdoor stuff.

I inheraited a my Dad's Remington model 721 300 H&H several years ago. He refinished the stock after he got the gun. He even did the checkering. It is a pleasure to shoot and easy to reload for. Feeds like butter with that taper shoulder. I handload a Nosler 200gr. Partition for mine. Noticed your in California so do you have to load a non lead bullet?

Nah, I just work in the PRC, my actual home is in Oregon.

If I can get them to shoot, I'll probably load Partitions in 180 or 200 gr. weights. Not above trying a lighter e-Tip, though. But I have other .30 calibers for lighter bullets... .300 Savage, '06, .300 Wizzum.

Kurt, I can't wait to hear how this rifle shoots. I bet it is going to be a sweetheart. Something about that 300 H&H is just awesome. After looking at all those rounds I sent you I really wanted to own one. Scotty

Awesome I have a soft spot for the 721 I killed my first deer with one in 30/06. 1983. That was the gun I would sneak out of the house when the grandparents went to town. Good score!
