I traded off an old M98 - 8mm and a Taurus Tracker 44 w/some cash for the Savage 16 Bear in the 300WSM. I put Weaver rail on with the 6 hole rings. On top of all that is my 3.5x10 BC Leupold VX-L. It needed a cleaning bad! It's all cleaned and trigger adj. I loaded 20rnds of Hornady 190 BTSP to break in the barrel. In about an hour I should be heading to the pit with the 300, 243 and 17HMR in tow for some shooting.

Here is a pic as it sits now.

It may end up with a Vortex PST before it's over.
I should comment that the fit and finish is by far the best on a Savage as I've seen before. The metal to stock is straight, action is smooth and accu-trigger is ...well an accu-trigger. All that I've felt feel pretty good.
A buddy who is a 700 and a Sako fan is pretty surprised how the lines on the new Savages are so clean. Not so clunky with side bolt locks and big gnarly barrel nuts and a matt finish. Matter of fact after today I bet he will be buying one of these. He is in the need of a 30 cal anyway.

Neat looking gun, looking forward to seeing how it shoots for you. The 190 gr Hornady was one of the slugs I liked in 300 mags in the past, it's a good bullet.

That rifle will do you well, the 300WSM is a great caliber and you will be more than satisfied with it.
Look forward to the range report and photos.
Savage has really made a name for it self up here as they are reasonable and almost all are tack drivers..

Blessings,
Dan

Very nice Savage buddy. The 300WSM and me are kinda new to one another, but I am liking it alot. Let me know how the 190's shoot for you. I would like to hear how your 300 handles them. They are a sleeper of a bullet I think. Supposed to be pretty tough as well. Good luck with the break in. Can't wait to see your targets.

Congrats Teknys!

Great cartridge, and the rifle looks good. It should turn out to be quite a shooter, with power enough for anything in North America!

Enjoy.
