I just can't help myself...

It is not a 300h&h. Already have one of those! :)

That is a 1954-vintage 270 Winchester. Not in my hands yet, but soon to be mine.

My 300H&H is from 1938, my 30-06 from 1949, and my soon to be acquired 270 from '54. I like that sampling of years from the pre64 eras. Gets me a chance to use a prewar, a late transition, and a post war example. Out of the m70's I'll have, I then go into an XTR, a classic, and two FN-made rifles. Pretty good overage of the various eras of the M70. :)

I don't see a problem.
What I see is an example and appreciation of quality.

Vince

Looks a lot like my 1952 M70 270...sans the scope in this pic but groups great after mounting a vintage Lyman Perma Center 4x.

This is just terrible seeing these lovely rifles! I'll soon be compelled to seek one out for myself. That could precipitate serious problems in my marriage.

Come on Dr. Mike! You know you need one.

Nice shooting ColColt! A pre 64 and a 4x scope just seem to go together like peas and carrots.

Peas and carrots go together? Maybe broccoli and cauliflower, but peas and carrots? And just quit pushing me so hard. I'm in hock now because of several builds. I'm on the Freedom 97 Plan for retirement now because of this disease. Ah, yes, 'tis a pleasant malady, however. Okay, Pat, I'll go looking.

TOM!.

You shouldn´t carry this burden alone. Find some friends you can "unload" your problems on to. Many here on the forum will help you

I think you are fixin that problem and really do not see it as a problem ! When you start getting them in multiples you have a problem !

I see that it shoots like a typical Pre 64. Model 70, .270 Win? Very close to the way mine shoots after 41 years of ownership by me. Probably will kill deer as well as mine does at out to 400 yards, being as accurate and all. What is it that you wish from us? Is it sympathy or something tangible?

Neither, really...just admitting my addiction, Charlie. And, revealing that I finally have decided to acquire a 270, despite years of steadfast resistance to doing so.

DrMike, you know the old Winchesters are calling to you.....

Yes, unfortunately, I do believe I can hear their plaintive cry wafting through the glowering gloom of the eventide.

My M1 is on the couch next to me waiting to go to its new home tomorrow. I don't believe it's pleased with me right now, but I gave it a wipe down and stowed it with 4 clips and 4 boxes of surplus ammo for its new owner. I am feeling just a tad sentimental about parting ways with it, but I still have a great example of the M1 in my cabinet, and this rifle wasn't going to get much play time anymore. Still....brings back good memories of a road trip with my brother to acquire it, and as such, it's a little sad to see it go.

I am getting to the point of thinking about "thinning the herd". The Pre-64, .270 Custom Model 70 and the .30-06, I will keep. These and the .257 Roberts, FN and the Sako 85, .338 Federal, I will also keep. I have not decided about the 9.3x74R Ruger No. One which I will keep for awhile.

That leaves the Model 63, Winchester (.22LR), the .204 Ruger, CZ 527 and the Mauser Custom, 7mm Rem Mag that I will be selling for sure.

The day does come for all of us, Charlie. Better to take the initiative and be in control of the process. You have some lovely firearms.

Thanks DrMike, I am a little hesitant on how to go about this? Long guns are not setting the market on fire at the moment and there are not any competent dealers locally that I would trust to treat me fairly. I need to think this through and come up with a couple of dealers that I can rely on to treat me fairly. Anyhow, I am not in a rush currently and have time to think it through.

The 7mm Mag Mauser Mark X custom is the stockwork of Mark Moon of Grand Junction, CO and his work seems to be in demand. The rifle has beautiful wood and is in very fine condition but we shall see. Like I said, no hurry.

Tom, that is a really nice looking Model 70 .270 Win and what ever you decide to do with it, it will be a fine addition to your collection.
