In the last 24 hours I have been getting pics on my phone, phone calls, and text messages of all my friends that are out killing nice bulls! Got my drop chart for the 280 AI with some 160 AB made, and bullets sitting here ready to kill elk. My season doesn't start till the sixth of Nov. and I already can't sleep!

Seven days, seven days! Take it easy now, we can do this. Check your pack one more time to make sure you got everything? Your knife, sharpen it one more time, is the spare tire on the truck low? Seven days, seven days! We've all been there you can make it. Hey, but lets say if you don't can I have your rifle? good luck

My friend went out of the house one day without his rifle and I went out one day without my license and tag. YOu "never" can be to sure of your stuff. In another couple of weeks I get to do it all again, and as I set here typing I remembered that my bloody saw is still in my pack!! Thanks for the reminder!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it not good that we can still get excited about a hunting trip.
I leave this coming Monday for the rifle portion of our Mule deer hunt. I just hope we can to see a couple of the real good bucks we have seen during the muzzle loader hunt.
I have been doing this for over 45 years and I can still get excited mostly now for the hunt its self getting your animal is good but the friendships and the adventure means a lot more to me now :)

Blessings,
Dan

A few years ago, I was 45 minutes away when I realized that I had left the bolt for the Weatherby on the kitchen table. I will be elk hunting starting Tuesday, and the whitetail and mule opens Wednesday. Be like Santa, make a list and check it twice, because MURPHY'S LAW ALWAYS WINS!

Oh I have a list, make no mistake about it. I'll be pulling the camper around and starting toload everyting monday, and checking it off the list. Took the 338 WM out last night along with a few 225 TTSX that I had loaded. The back up rifle is good to go. Taking the 280 AI out this morning to lay a few foulers down on a clean bore, and make sure everything is still set.

My Mother, sister inlaw, and wife have all made us some dinners, and my little bro gets home from leave on the second.

This is going to be a great hunt even if we don't see any elk. Spending a week with my brothers in the mountains with a good bottle of Pendleton in the evenings can't go wrong!

Jake, that sounds like a great trip. I hope your brother has a helluva good time. Hunting while in the Marine Corps is a challenge at best. Hunting on Camp Pendleton is alot of fun if you want to put in the time. There are some big mulies there, and I mean good ones! I had a blast out there, plus, you can shoot about all the coyotes you want. I hope you guys do well and have a blast. Looking forward to hearing how the hunt goes. What is your little brother carrying for his hunt? Scotty

Good luck to you! I'm going crazy as well. My cousin shot a nice 6X6 in the Minam Unit on Thursday...General Second Season opens this coming Saturday. I'll be hunting spikes in the Desolation Unit again this year. To make matters worse, I have to be in Atlanta on Tuesday and Wednesday...can't wait for Friday!

My little bro will be shooting his Savage persision carbine .308 loaded with 130 TTSX @ 3100 fps. My youngest bro will be using my 338 WM as he is the one coming in from camp Pendleton. He landed in PDX tonight and will be here the on tuesday.

Ten day fordcast says lows in the 30s and highes in the 60s with only a 10% chance of rain. Should be pretty good hunting.

Jake,

Your not the only one.. For the past month I have been chasing deer and coyotes with combines & tractors. Then having the time to think about "what I would do if I was hunting?" Nothing like doing straight lines at 3-4 mph to generate hunting fantasy's... I am sure you know what I'm talking about.

And like you, several friends have called, texted, and emailed the results of their hunt. I feel your pain.....  One can only pack, review list, double check, and repack so many times.  I'll still forget something...

I am waiting big time to her from 6mm Remington and the results of his weekend hunt..

Well guys we left yesterday on a 3 day Muley hunt and got back last night after just 1 day. We got 1 real good one it has a 29" inside spread and 2 that are just good bucks and one that had a little ground shrinkage
I will get DrMike if he will to post the photos.

Blessings,
Dan

Wow, a 29"er! That is a monster! I dream about hunting muley's that big, let alone killing one! Scotty

Jake -

I'm with you ! The countdown is on.... Friday @ Noon, I'm outa here !
I was able to go up with a buddy last weekend that had a cow tag and look around a little.
There is more snow than I have ever hunted with in that area and access is very limited now.
Still saw some ok bulls and a lot of coyotes that appear to never get educated -

Good luck to you !

Sask that sounds like one heck of a buck! We usually see some like that when we are elk hunting but never when we are deer hunting.

Talked to a fish and wildlife friend of mine, and he has several contacts in the area that we are planning to hunt. They hunted all first season and saw lots of elk everyday, but they were after BIG bulls. So we are pretty optimistic that we should be able to get into some smaller branch bulls. Just hope the weather is friendly.

Good luck guys!

Jake,
Have a great hunt and enjoy yourselves. Hopefully the elk God's will shine down on thee! Nodak7mm I have no elk pictures with Andy yet, but it is coming my friend, and hopefully my son as well. If those two characters get elk at the same time I'm going to have my hands full getting elk out of the woods. I cannot think of misery I love any more than this! I just thought of this jake as this is one very real essential item for your trip.............lots of TP. In the truck, in the camper, and in your pack. Also take a box of scent free baby bottom wipes to have one in the camper, one in the truck, and one to keep your stash in your zip-lock storage bag in your pack. They are worth their weight in gold after you know what and after cleaning an animal, or even just giving your face a quick once over to freshen you up a bit.

Andy has seen an elk and a couple deer and he heard his first elk cow talk to us, and he heard a dear snort at us. He has never heard either before. On Saturday I let him drive my truck on a two track 4x4 road that was about the equal of a farmer's two track. We never got above 20 mph and that was only for short distances. Only vehicle of any type he has ever driven before was a gofl cart with his grandpa. I'm probably gonna be in trouble with his mom when she finds out, but he's 15 and this is hunting by golly. I took him out Sunday afternoon and we hunted until after dark. Only saw three fresh elk tracks in all of our walking and only heard one deer snort at us. Was getting too dark and we could not see her. He's having fun though and our big hunt starts on Nov 18-21st. He got a real lucky draw that hopefully we will have pictures to share.

Good luck Jake and enjoy your time with your family. I feel elk steaks coming on!!

David

Here is Andy up on the ridge. We had a great day together! Other guy is Guide David. Not paid well and I keep having him ask his mom to make chocolate cookies for substanance so we don't die of starvation on the mountain!

Just taking a break. Andy found a 4 point bull shed on this day. It's now in his bedroom. I'm probably in trouble with mom on that one as well.

Deserves an elk doesn't he! This is the best I got right now Jake, give us some photo's here in a couple days. My guiding hasn't been very productive yet......

6mm my friend, those looks on the young man say it all, priceless fer sure!!! The old guy looks pooped, but happy too.

Thats what its all about, hearing deer snorts, driving your first time!!! Hell, kill something and all the fun is over and the work begins....

Nice Pix Dave, thanks for sharing.
