I'm home sick and bored, bad combo. Kinda of going on WT s thread but maybe not a last hunt.
So here is the deal a rich Uncle dies and leaves you $20,000 in his will. The specifics are the money has to be used on a hunt , any hunt you wish but you cannot go by a Harley or hit Vegas with it!
This hunt could be in your backyard with 20 G's of new gear or far away as your imagination takes you!!
So boys entertain me , ill reply after a few others , still thinking!

Always wanted to hunt New Zealand. Thank you very much, Uncle. Here I go. Of course, if I allow myself to actually think, the North American Serengeti in my own backyard is calling for new explorations. All that's needed is a new side-by-side and freedom to get me into the high country. Done. New Zealand can wait. (y)

That is a tough choice and I'm not sure I could narrow it down until I was literally forced to pick. Here are the first things that come to mind......Africa for buffalo and whatever else is on the menu, Alaska for brown bear, goat, and deer on Kodiak, Alaska/Yukon for a huge bullwinkle, or maybe one of the reservations for huge mule deer (or anywhere else for huge muledeer). I'd honestly lean towards the muledeer hunt(s) because there is nothing quite like seeing a 30+" muledeer IMO. I sure wish my dead uncle would of left 100k instead of 20k so I could do all four of them.

IdahoCTD that 30" heavy mule deer buck would be an awesome hunt, but if push comes to shove it would have to be a hunt in Alaska, BC, the Yukon, or NW Territories for grizzly bear, sheep, and moose with a wolf tag thrown in there. Or..................if they get the darn grizzly bear delisted here, I could be quite content going on a guided hunt in the Bob Marshall Wilderness after grizzly bear, mule deer, and elk. Still for the remoteness and everything else that goes with it, I'd have to say the north country hunt would be it!! Thanks Uncle Buck!!

Alaska for Kodiak Bear and if there's money left over Wyoming for a DIY antelope hunt. If I had some extra money to throw in I'd skip Wyoming and go to Africa for a plains game hunt with any leftover funds. I don't think I could swing a buff hunt and a bear hunt.

Years ago I was given a bok by Jim Carmichel called, "The Modern Rifle", complete with his autograph. In his section on single shot rifles he expressed disaproval of hunting big game with them. He did not feel they were sporting. He them made a snide comment about hunting something big and dangerous with a single shot rifle about that being very sporty.
So, my hunt would be for Cape Buffalo using one of my dangerous game Ruger #1s. I have the choice of .375 H&H. .404 Jeffery and .416 Rigby. Of the three, the .404 is the easiest to shoot because it came with a muzzle brake. The .404 is one of the rarer Ruger #1 rifles and that brake ruined it as a collector's piece. The .416 can get a bit brutal after a few rounds as it has that skinny little red piece of rubber for a pad. Never have figured what Ruger was thinking by putting those pads on the hard kickers. Oh, and Mr. Carmichel is invited to come along.

It would be a hard decision between Alaska for sheep and moose, or Africa for Cape Buffalo and sable.

Either way, I would get a .375 H&H.

Welcome aboard, zacii; I hadn't noticed your previous post. Always glad to see more people sharing the love of shooting/hunting.

Well, 20K will take me to Alaska for one of those big azz moosies...but, he's gonna have to make me 20 years younger too...

Cheers/bg

Thanks.

I didn't see an introduction section, so I figured I'd just dive right in.

Ya' done good. There is a place to introduce yourself, it may not be intuitive to find it, however. Jumping in fits in very well with most of this crowd.

My uncles were tough guys. WWII vets. Navy & Marines. Pacific Theater, both of them. Dang, those two were in it... Okinawa for both of them, hitting the beach for one, taking a kamikaze attack for the other...

Neither one left me a doggone dime, just a lot of great memories!

Now, if one of them would have left me money for a hunt, it would have been the Marine. The sailor would have left me money for a Harley and a trip to Vegas...

I'm with Idaho CTD on this one, torn between Alaska/Canada for grizzly and/or giant moose... And Africa for Cape Buff and some plains game...

The .375 would absolutely be tasked for this hunt! The bolt action one, NOT my single shot...

The ONLY thing that tugs at me, even in this imaginary hunt... Is that for $20k, I could get one heck of a nice plains game hunt for me and my son... That would really be pretty special. And I wouldn't feel so selfish.

Moose and Grizzler bears in the Yukon. Maybe sheep thrown if there's time. All with my Model 70 7mm rem mag.

Dr. Mike I would be your wing man on that New Zealand trip. I want to go there more than any other place and hunt those magnificent stags during the roar.

Ya think we could get in trouble with 40k in our pockets, a couple Winchesters in the cases and our passports?

Let's go Pat. Guess I have to find a rich uncle first. Trouble with that is that I've outlived all my uncles! Still, it'd be a great deal of fun. I've always wanted to go to the south island and look for the elusive moose.

Well the wife kicked me off the couch and I went to work for a bit yesterday and never found the chance to reply . Thanks to a little innsomnia I'm awake now and reading replies, I find my self in the same boat as a few Alaska? Or Africa ? I would wind up having to flip a coin! The thought of chasing 350" bull elk in New Mexico also crossed my mind the potential to kill a huge bull like the spyder bull may entice a guy to drop a little dough. It's nice to dream I guess.

Would the rich uncle's estate allow the $$$ to be put towards a new set of hunting wheels?
Keith

Far too practical, Keith. Ya' gotta' squander this inheritance!
