Just came in to a couple bottles of IMR 4320. I've never used nor have I heard much about this powder for .30-06 and was thinking I might give it a try with 150 gr BT's for my Rem 700 .30-06.
Found some load data, but was wondering if anyone had experience with this powder for this application. Is this a worthwhile use, or should I just stick with the old "standbys" ? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I have only loaded IMR 4320 in 308 Win with 165 gr bullets, accuracy was very good.
My go to powder for 30-06 was always IMR 4350.

rmbates,

Welcome to the forum. I know you will enjoy the interactions here.

While IMR4320 will work in the 30-06, powders that are somewhat slower will generally give you better results. It is a somewhat faster powder which, if you choose to use, will work better with light for calibre bullets.

I've got some 4320 powder that I'm going to load in my 7Mag later, but my go to powder for my 30-06 is 4350 for 150 Hornady BTSP and Nosler 165gr.BT. 4350 powder is hard to beat for accuracy and FPS.

I've never tried it in my 30.06 but IMR4320 is a diamond in the rough for the 260 rem. It produces excellent groups out of my daughters rem 7 260 with 120gr bullets.

IMR-4320 and H-4350 gave me my highest velocity and best groups in my 30-06 with 150gr E-Tips. Seems to work better with the lighter bullets in the 30-06 I've used it with 125/135gr also in the 30-06.

Forgot to add it's my go to powder for the 17Rem.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys. I did try some loads of the 4320 as I have nothing else to use it with. Velocity was good but groups no better than 2 MOA @ 100 yds with 150gr BT's in my 22" barrel.
Can't get my hands on any IMR 4350 right now but have H4350 and IMR 4064 available, so I'll see how they work out.

With the IMR 4064 start around 49 gr. and ease up 1/2 grain if necessary. Mine likes a little stouter load. Winchester cases with CCI primers.

I tried a pound of IMR4320 once back in the mid-80s and was not too impressed with it. However I got some decent groups using it with the 150NBT. As some of the other guys have pointed out a little slower powder will give better results. For many years IMR4350 was my go to powder for all weights in .30-06. Now my go to is the new RL-17 powder. Excellent accuracy with anywhere from 100 – 150 fps increase in velocity depending on bullet wt.

You said that you had IMR 4064 then you are set for 150's in the 06. The Sierra accuracy load is 51.2 grs IMR 4064 with 150 gr bullets. I have used this load for many years and have loaded it for many of my friends. It shoots great in about any bolt action 30-06 I have ever seen. This is close to the max load so work up to it in your rifle.

IMR 4320 was used in factory loaded 308 Win. ammo once upon a time.

IMR4064 or Win760 give me the most speed and very accurate in all the 30-06 rifles/pistol I load for. Both these powders do better than IMR or H4350 in the 30-06. The IMR4350 does well in the 338win mag with 200-210gr bullets or in the 300 win mag with 150gr bullets.
