I went to the sports shop after work and the shelfs are bare. There is a sign on the primer locker that says, "2 boxes per person" They did not have much for powder. They had some Reloader and XBR8208. Next pay check I will go snag some of that. They did not have large rifle primers. I went to the other store in town and they had one pound of IMR 4895 and a few other kinds. They also had 9 boxes of WLR primers. I grabbed the IMR 4895 for my m1 and 500 primers. The guy at the counter said that guns are flying out the door. They just got in a Remingtion AR15 with a scope and he figured it would be gone in 2 days. They want $2100 for it!!!! I am going to keep stopping in and picking up powder and primers every pay day until it slows down. The second store is not known for their reloading supplies so I hope it stays that way.

Most of the stores here are out of primers. One store has them for $5.00 per 100.
Crazy.

In light of the threats emanating out of Washington, I would anticipate shortages in components for some time. Manufacturers will push to meet demand, but distribution will be spotty for some time.

Maybe I should run to town in the morning and get the last 500 primers and one more pound of powder???

Welcome to the madness. Everybody is drinking the AB Kool-aid.

G'Da Fella's,

It looks like President Obama, might make "US Gun Salesman of The Year" for 2013 as well!
Apparently, he has already won that award for 2012!!!

Doh!

Well I am guilty. I just went up and grabbed 5 of the last 7 boxes of primers. I will let someone else have a few. I also got a pound of powder. I plan on getting a few more pounds in the next week. That will get me though summer and hunting season with enough stuff for the 06, 338, 6.5 Grendel, 22-250 and 25-06.

I'll never do business with a shop again that gouges now. Luckily my local guys haven't been so greedy.

If everyone did that it would smarten them up, no excuse for greed in my mind. Raising prices on existing inventory is inexcuseable in my mind.

My local shop had 3k LRMagnum primers, a few hundred small pistol and a thousand or so shotgun primers.
They have gone nuts on their prices with ARs and AKs.
6 weeks ago Romanian AKs were $400.00 Now they want $1300 for the same rifle?????
Wolf steel case 223 FMJ ammo that was $3.95 a box is now $20.00 ????
Powder? Just out of a few brands.

If I didn't have a Zeiss conquest in layaway I would have walked out.

I bought 500 LRM Fed 215 Match primers a week ago at a local store along with some IMR 4064. They are selling AR 15's like hotcakes and pistols but components are still in stock mostly.

I've seen these shortages before. In 96 with rumors of an ammo tax or ban, in 2010-11 with the election of Obama and now. I got 8 lb of IMR4350 this fall (not a pressure buy, just had the cash at the time and settled on that powder for my "slow" loads). When the first rumors of shortages hit in Dec I put in 8 lb of IMR 4064 (wanted Varget but it was already short), 1K .30 cal 155s and 3K primers on the plastic. Figure I'm good to go for at least a year of shooting. I hate to panic or stock up, but based on previous shortages, it was necessary to keep shooting. No doubt my stores will be the envy of many reloaders by May.

I tell ya, the first time paying the ridiculous haz mat fee was tough, being the cheapskate I am. Now its much easier when I can see the overall big savings. I haven't yet been able to get others to go in on a big buy but they will come around.

The only relatively local store that has reloading supplies is out of the most common bullets and limiting people to 300 primers. They are small so their prices are always a little higher but they aren't raising them.

Long

Long, that is the same here. The local small dealer has limited primers and powder but he has kept his normally a little higher prices the same. This is fine with me. He does not get the price breaks of the big guys but he has at least a limited supply of primers, bullets and powder that he is rationing out to customers.

I'm glad everyone is stocking up on components for the next 100 years. This way when the inventories return, the prices will drop along with demand and I can get some good deals right in time for the groundhog season.

I'm patient enough to wait out the panic. LOL

Tell you what. Try to find 5.7x28mm ammo...anywhere!

Thank God I have plenty of brass.
