You sure do well with that 130 ET. As nice as the 270 WSM is to shoot I have had a few thoughts of not needing a 338 WM for elk. Seeing you dropping moose like flys with yours doesn't help either

Beautiful rifle you have! You go ahead and shoot all the little old elk you want with that 270 WSM. I bet it doesn't let you down. You don't need a 338 WM, but if you just saw Scotty's post in another category here with all the weaponry he has, need sometimes doesn't factor in. That boy is one sick puppy with that RADD he's got going on. I think he needs to go shopping at Cabela's or the Nosler plant!

Nice rifle and a great shooter.

Easy on me David, the 270WSM is still my #1 Favorite cartridge. It is my 280 to you. You just cannot beat it at all. I deem it the perfect mountain rifle. Maybe not ideal, but as perfect as I can find. Light recoil and FLAT. Plus, it has great energy out to very useable ranges.

You should have heard the conversations Jake and I had before he built his 270WSM. If I wasn't excited about that, well, then I don't know what to say.. Love the 270WSM.

Thanks Fotis. My buddy, brother , and I were all talking about a new deer area for next year. I'm all excited to get some big buck blood on her. I'm getting it trained right so far. She is shooting 100% on critters, and both of them were over 400 yard shots.

I'm thinking about putting some MOA CDS dials on the scope as well.

The 270 WSM is more powerful and accurate than one would think and that's one fine looking rifle it's riding in too. Those groups are comming together real nice.

She's a beauty! The more I see those OD green stocks, the more I like them. I believe that's what I'm going to have to find for my 270Wby when I get around to restocking her. Congrats on the beautiful gun.

Quick question - I'm curious about the weight. You say she's around 8.25lbs ready to hunt? What is the #4 contour on that barrel like? Is it a thin sporter, a little heavier, or is it more like a varmint contour and the fluting helps take off the weight? I'm itching to build one of about a thousand rifles in my head, and I'm trying to get a WSM-based rifle down under 9.5lbs loaded and ready to hunt. I figure the scope will weigh about a pound, and the ammo will weigh in about another quarter pound or so (guessing, but I'm betting that's close for three WSM rounds), and the stock will run 2lbs. So that leaves me 5.75-6.25lbs of barreled action weight to contend with. I'm hoping to be able to stick a long barrel (26-28") on her, but that might require a lot more machine work to lighten and skeletonize. That just drives up cost. What are the dimensions on the barrel contour you used?

That rifle is a sure thing Jake. Well thought out build and put together pretty darned well too. Scotty

The number four fluted weighs a bit less than a number two nonfluted I believe. But is much stiffer. It is one size up from a factory magnum in size I think. I had this one finished at 25". I don't know the detentions off the top of my head, but pac nor has a pretty good website. They also have a weight calculator so you can play around and see what different barrels will weigh.

Bk, the barrel came fluted from pac nor.

Jmad- Awesome rifle and some fine shooting. Nothing wrong with a 140gr AB for killing critters. My favorite 270 bullet for sure. Great build any way to keep it a secret. Bet that was tough huh!
