Journey toward a pronghorn hunt.

You've got that 264 tuned. This is my antelope load for my 264 if I ever draw another tag.

Well fellas I didn't get the draw. I'm disappointed to be sure. Better luck next year.

I've shot two in the neck (not on purpose). One was an instant kill the other took out the wind pipe and took another shot to finish the job. The second antelope was four hundred yards on the run after I blew an easy shot at a much shorter distance. I thought I might have wounded it with the first shot or I wouldn't have been shooting at it that far on the run. Just plain luck I hit it at all.
I saw my nephew kill his first antelope with a shot to the back ham. Killed it almost instantly.

Condolences on missing the draw. I didn't get the draw I wanted this year, either. That is the joy of hunting, however--there's always next year.

In the meantime, there's always coyotes. They're sometimes "collateral damage" on my hunts for bigger game. Or sometimes I just go hunt them during the "off" season.

And... you can get over-the-counter deer tags can't you? Could be wrong...

Also, I believe Wyoming has more antelope & deer tags avail. Something was wrong with their draw, and more tags are available. I don't understand it fully. Read something about it in the past day or two.

You could still hunt this year if you'd like.

I see your location is "dry side of WA" which is excellent mule deer country. No draw required for that, and there's also a late whitetail season in November, with no draw required. Simple over-the-counter tags will get you afield.

Bear is also over the counter, no draw, and is right around the corner...

Here's the link to the Wyoming discussion, with tags going on sale 7/24:

And... there really are some very good hunting opportunities avail here in Washington, with no draw required. Bear, deer & elk...
