Well, January the 29th, next Saturday, will be the last day for me to hunt. It will be primitive muzzle loader. I will be cold with occasional periods of rain with temps from 26-60 degrees in Prentiss, Mississippi. I will be hunting a stand that is not a long shot, 50yds being my longest, but that is fine since I will be using my single shot 45 cal muzzle loading pistol, with a 285gr cast hollow point bullet, moving 1400fps, with open sights, using a musket cap. One more chance to try and bag a buck this season. I am really looking forward to it considering the long wait I will have before hunting season opens up again.

Bullet,

Super kool rig you got there and your camera "eye" is pretty dang schweet too. I really dig that pix with those (real) props..

Thanks.

Thanks for complement on the pictures. Yep, it is a cool rig and sure beats all that inline stuff, but that is another story and I won't express what I think about it. I just like to use what really was like the old stuff.

That rig will take ya back......
Good luck Mike.

Thanks guys, it will be fun to do it old way for a day.

Thanks guys, I went to the woods behind my place this afternoon and checked it out to see if it is still sighted in. I shot standing freehand and at 50yds put the two rounds I fired on target just 1 1/2" apart from each other. It is still sighted in and ready to go.

You should get a blast out of taking a deer with that BP 45 mag. hog-leg. I used to have a CVA Mountain Pistol in 50 cal that I put together out of a kit and made some modifications to it. With 60 grs FFFG and a patched .490 ball it was a tack driver and a power house of a pistol. The only animal I ever killed with it was a wild dog. I put a ball into it's chest as it was running at me in attack mode from about 50 yards. There was a small pond behind the dog and I saw the ball splash into the pond after going all the way through the dog that was about the size of a normal German Shepard. At the shot the dog was DRT after is stopped tumbling. Bullet exited out a ham with a 50 cent size hole.

I missed a doe in the early morning hours at 90 yards. She was crossing an opening at 90yds from me and I rushed the shot and it went over her back, the pine trees behind her caught the bullet. Then I had to stop hunting that evening some 35 minutes before I wanted to because I could not see my fine open sights in the low light. I enjoyed being out there and away from the rush of everyday life, but it has also been a very frustrating year. Next year will be a better year. :)

Spoken like a true hunter. We're all with you, Mike; and we've all been there.

Yes DrMike, it will be a better year because I am going to work a lot harder and with some specific goals in mind. Lord willing my plans will work out. :)

Bullet; Sounds like your about due for a rocky mountain high elk hunt during the rut. That would get rid of your post season mississippi blues. Of course you will need to replace the pistol, the big ass knife and pouch with a long range rifle, a more appropriate skinning knife and a quality elk bugle. Keep the hat. It,s a killer. Good luck next season. :) :)

Thanks man, I have one more chance and will start a new thread and explain. Amen, on getting rid of the short range muzzle loading pistol and the big knife, but I am in agreement with you on keeping the hat, it is righteous indeed. Look for my new thread later this evening.
