Load Work for 338Win Mag

I'm very happy for you Mike. With a 200gr AB grouping under 5/8" you have good accuracy, good velocity, good mass, good trajectory, and great bullet construction. This is in a standard length action, with a 24" barrel. That makes for a well rounded package. 8)

+1
A_S is spot on.

Thanks guys, I am taking a break from anymore load work until I get back from my trip the end of November to Missouri. Thanks Jim for all the help you gave to make my load work possible. Yours truly, bullet :)

Bullet I noticed your targets in your photographs, and it might help to have a real nice sharp clear target that is the right size for the power of scope you are using on your rifle. It sure helps me to shoot a little better.

You might try and go to Sinclair International on the computer and look at targets that they offer. Two I am speaking about are by Mountain Plains and BriarBank. The first targets are bue on a white background and are diamond shaped. They show 1/4 inch lines to assist in getting your sighting in JUST RIGHT. The BriarBank are black on white and have small squares with smaller circles inside the square. I use both types and really like them a lot. The BrairBank targets also show 1/4 inch lines for precise scope adjustment, and both types of targets are on heavy stock paper that are three hole punched for a binder so you can keep the targets if you wish. They each also have space for all the important data that you use for each load such as OAL, powder, charge, primer, bullet, velocity, and more.

Just a thought, but they are terrific. They also make different sizes to be used with different power rifle scopes and longer distances. Certainly worth a look. Hope this helps. 6mm Remington

Good work Mike. So H4350 was the magic powder right? What load exactly?

Thanks, but is has been "ECONO" week around here since I needed extra spending money for the end of the month hunt. Did not want to spring for printer ink

I can't stand it!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can't figure out why I can't get the 210gr Partitions to shoot. So I went back to and old combination:

210gr Par
Rem brass
Rem 9 1/2M primers
74.5grs of IMR4350
COL 3.303"

210gr Par
Rem Brass
Rem 9 1/2M primers
73.5 of H4350
COL 3.303"

Got to give it one more try tomorrow morning just to see. I think this is an addiction, what do you all think

..........I know!......But for some paper punchin you never know! The 300 gr VLDs coming out supposedly next year, may be extremely accurate out of your 338 Win Mag. You don`t have to hunt with them.

At your age for anything over 100 yards, you need the best BC bullet you can get!!!.....

338 win mag

Muzzle - 4123
300yds - 2544
400yds - 2144
500yds - 1793

270 winchester

1285 at 500 yards.... 150 grain Partition

Not much difference...

Other than the extra 50 plus grains of bullet weight and the larger frontal area. I like the 270, but the 338's are in another league as far as thumping game and making exit holes. Nothing against the 270 as it is one of my favorites, but you have to see them in action. They leave alot of blood on the ground. Scotty

Now for the reeel funny part.........That`s from a 16.5" barrel!!!!

You probably have to bump the 338 up to 225's at around 2900 to make it fair, which most 338's are pretty capable of. I think you have a great 300WSM load, that is really zipping out of a 16.5 barrel. Still rather have the 338 hole in big game, but again, all three will end the life of big game with monotony. Scotty

.......Yeah I know! He`ll come back with a 225 grainer! Its fun razzin him though!

That same RL19 300 WSM loading btw, I worked up to and duplicated from someone else on line. From their 24" 300 WSM, they got 2930. A 4% loss from my shorty.
