Loading for a 50 BMG.

We got a chance to shoot a .50 BMG last week in an Armalight single shot. My Dad also got to shoot it and is absolutely convinced that he has to have one and wants me to load for it.

I don't know a dang thing about loading for them. Does anybody here have any pointers?

Invest in bulk powder :lol: I couldn't help myself. Let me know if you need brass. My buddy has a bunch of once fired LC when he was hot a heavy for the 50 cal. He never did get one :x

No kidding :shock: Was looking at several loads and they were talking 233 grains of H50BMG! 8 lbs would only load up 240 shells!

Ouch! And I thought the RUM was a powder hog!

You will need a press that handles the 50BMG. The cartridge does take a bit of powder.

Lots and lots of powder. The hornaday book says 250gr for one load.

try to find mil-surp wc 868, or wc 872, they are alot cheaper, if you have a rockchucker press it will work just screw the 7/8's/14 adapter out and the 50 BMG dies fit in the big hole, then get dies and shellholder and loads like any other only ya sweat more if its warm.

Lots of H869 or surplus powder. Figure 250 grains a shell or 28 rounds a pound.

Always wanted to shoot one....never had the chance. Just such awesome power!

I don't think I'd try still hunting with that rifle but if I had a nice field I'd have a picnic with the resident woodrats and trespassing gators.
