I have a project I would like to get started and I was wondering if you guys had anyone you would recommend?

Pretty much a custom build.

Mods if for any reason this subject is taboo please nuke it.

Thanks

Ideal is if you are able to find someone in your area so that you can spend time talking with them. However, any of the better known names appear to do a good job, which is why they became better known. I'd suggest that first you should think about what you want and what sort of shooting you intend to do. That will go a long way toward narrowing the field in your search for a good smith.

Doc im pretty sure of exactly what it is want done. Just isn't anyone near me i would trust with doing it right.

...recommending a gunsmith boils down to whatcha wanna build, how long are you willing to wait, & where are you located. Some quality gunsmiths w/i driving dist. of Cody, but backlogs can range from 2-3mo. to 2-3yrs. depending on what you actually want...

What are you going to have built and where do you live?

I have a pre 64 30 aught featherweight that i bought specifically for this project. Its not something that us considered a collectable so i have no qualms about ripping it up. I plan on having it converted into a 240wby...no other reason than because i want to :) i am in south florida

I know where their is a basically NIB 1999-2000 model 240 Wby Ultra Light that is owned by a Gunshop owner here in ABQ and is asking 1350.00 with a Leupold setting up top and I have played with it and it basically looks like an Accumark? Only 40 rounds put down the tube?

Im looking to do a build....thanks for the heads up though .....hell i still may ask for his info

I would have bought it but he had a 257 in an Accumark with a Redfield on it for about the same money and condition and i have been looking to up grade my 2 Vanguard's to Accumarks in 257 and 300 Wby! Not sure why I walked out but my 2 Vanguard's are SMOA models and are fine shooters I just want the #3 contour's and fluted barrels! You need the info just let me know!

I know that there is a very good Smith in Oklahoma his name is Dave White. I believe his site is Custom Gunworks by Dave White.
You can check him out and have a talk with him.

Blessings,
Dan

For work on a Model 70 I would send to Lee Christianson in Wisconsin.

Lee Christianson
2037 50th Ave.
Baldwin, WI 54002

I don't have Lee's phone number. He posts over at 24hourcampfire.com as "Redneck".

I'll throw Kevin Weaver's name in the hat as well of Weaver Rifles, he has a web page to look at. He builds a lot of custom rifles every year for organizations like RMEF, RM Big Horn Sheep Society, and the Wild Sheep Foundation. He can do everything pretty much in house now that the renovations to his workshop are complete.

Give these guys a call as they do some nice work but how will you afford 240 Weatherby Brass ?? Much less find some! Great choice in caliber but components are very hard to find and I have been looking a lot!!

Good luck with your build as that is Roy Jr's favorite hunting caliber!!
