How do you guys who, like me, have always used standard magazine, find using the blind magazine? Nosler isn't the only one of course, but this is their forum and all, so I'm asking here.

Would you have preferred a drop-out mag instead? Do you love the idea of never dropping your magazine down in mud puddle getting out of your truck?

I like the idea of less-is-more in this case. Due to my lack of experience with them, am I missing something?!

Cheers

For me the blind mag in the TGR was a good selling point. Eliminates the possibility of losing round out a hinged floor plate or as i once did forgot my drop mags at home. It is said that a blind mag makes the stock more rigid and is for sure lighter. I cut my teeth on ADLs so it was only normal for me.

Yeah forgetting your mag at home would definately start off the day on the wrong foot!

My son's rifle is the only one with the blind magazine. I can't really see it as an issue. A little more pain for unloading at the end of the day, but nothing that would really detract a whole lot from the rifle. Plus, anything that makes it a little lighter is never a bad thing in my book. Scotty

A blind magazine is a non-issue in my estimate. While everyone enjoys convenience, there can be some advantages to the concept of simpler. A blind magazine would not be a deal breaker for me in purchasing a rifle.

Scotty - I too would see the unloading as the only downside to it, if we can even call it that(?).

I've got one rifle currently with a blind mag. I prefer a drop out floorplate or box mag (for unloading - a minor issue), but I can tell you that my Colt Light Rifle with the blind magazine is one of my favorites. It's light, handy, and a joy to shoot (because it's accurate as sin!). I wouldn't think twice about buying a blind mag rifle, especially if I was concerned at all about weight. Beyond that, I still prefer a floorplate, but that's another story.

One thing I'll add is that you want to be sure you control your muzzle when unloading a blind mag rifle. You have to chamber every round, so the potential for unintentional discharge is there. That's the single reason I like floorplates. Blind mags are great otherwise. And, one less thing to clean/corrode/break!

The Nosler TGR is a great rifle. Mine is a .280 Ackley Improved with Leupold VXIII 4.5-14X40, sling and magazine full weighs 8.2 pounds. Shoots Nosler 150 grain E-Tip with H4831 at 2850 FPS. The best group to date at 100 yards is .158" inch. Light, durable, great finish and a breeze to carry. Trigger lets off right at 3 pounds. Talley mounts. I have both Nosler Custom Rifle in .280 Ackley Improved and the Model 48 Legacy in .338-06. Both with great scopes and each is well .5" at one hundred yards.

The one that goes in the field the most................TGR .280 Ackley.

Yeah that 280AI sure is interesting. Unfortuantely the only dealer than has some in stock doens't have that one caliber.

I'm going to roll the dice and wait until the post xmas sales come around. Right now the said dealer has their TGR at a whooping 5% discount  May as well charge me full price for it honestly!

For a mountain rifle a blind magazine would be great, one less thing to go wrong and you don't unload your gun till you get back to civilization anyway.

Ben,

Found this on shootersproshop.com thought you might be interested.

It's 7mm-08 I know you were looking for one so there you go good luck with your import woes.

Thanks for the link nvbroncrider.

Importing would run me about $250 or so through Clay at Prophet River Firearms (great guy btw) and would take approximately 8 weeks (can be as quick as 2 and up to 12 weeks). Add to that will be a 5% federal sales tax and shipping fees of about $50 to me (i'm 3/4 way accross the country from them).

Too bad the stock on that Sporter isn't like the current TGR as it's a good price, but I can't say that I like that finish :(

Cheers
Ben

I like the blind mag and it is easy to use but the real reason I like it if for rigidity, strength and accuracy potential along with weight reduction ( my rifle weighs with scope 7.6 pounds, 7mm-08) and a mag door is not in my way. I love the stock on the M48 TGR and this is a perfect mountain rifle.
