M70 Stock Question

I am a new member here and just purchased a M70 Ultimate Shadow with the injection molded plastic stock. I was going to replace the stock until I saw several posts here about bedding plastic stocks and am thinking about trying to bed it with MarineTex. Note that I have no bedding experience. It is a SC build and has what looks like good bedding of the action and tang. I am looking to try to fix the flexible forend. Can anyone give me any advice on how to do this and get the bedding to adhere to the stock. I am thinking about bedding the first 2 inches of the chamber and filling in the bottom of the forend with MarineTex. Another possibility is to create a channel and bed a metal rod in the forend. The other option is to take the recoil pad off it, junk it, and purchase a B & C Medalist. Any comments or advice are appreciated.

I have used Marine Tex for the last three bedding jobs on some M70's that I own. It is very nice stuff with the consistency of peanut butter when mixed. All I did to mine is wipe down with Acetone to get all the oil off of it, then bedded the action.

I have 3 M70's in the black injection molded stocks and I have not modified any of the forend for stiffness. I have never had to do it as after bedding, all three rifles are sub MOA all day long. I have heard of people taking a metal rod and bedding it in, but if I was doing that, I would use regular Accraglass as it will pour out like maple syrup and you can level the stock, then the Accraglass will level itself out in the stock over the rod, then the balance will not be upset. To accuratly level the marine Tex will be tough, if not impossible, unless you fully bed the barrel, but then the free float advantage is gone.

If it was me, I would marine tex the action front and back. Then remove the action, install the rod, then pour the accraglass in and level the stock.

If you want to dam up the accraglass so it stops, just use some modeling clay and a business card cut to match the inside contour of the forearm and there you go.

Jmak, welcome to the forum. I have had to take a cratex wheel on my Dremel to roughen up the areas where bedding the last Model 70 stock that I did but it was an older USRAC model and probably a different polymer than your stock. The first bedding that I put in pulled out when it hardened and shrunk.
 
When I did a Tupperware M70 stock, I swiped some Play-Doh from my kids, lol, and dammed up that stock channel that way. In fact, my wife now calls that rifle "That Play-Doh gun", lol.

While you're doing the bedding, I would recommend putting in pillars, too. When I floated and bedded my rifle, it made a small difference. When I pillared it, HUGE difference.
 
Thanks for the welcome to the forum and the bedding information. I am still debating between bedding the stock or just purchasing a Medalist to replace it. I should just bed it for the experience and to see how difficult it is. It doesn't look to complicated from some of the videos I watched.
 
Jmak, I wouldn't waste time or materials on the plastic. If you wanna practice, get a Medalist and bed that. That'll give you some experience and you will have a fully bedded rifle that has a great stock and will probably shoot really well. Just my opinion, but the plastic stocks aren't ever really good, even with alot of time and effort put into them.
 
I'm with Scotty on this Medalist or a Micky. Those cheap plastic stocks are just that. The one I pulled off my 700 donor rifle was just flimsy and downright ugly. Just Remingtons way of maximizing profit on those that either don't care or don't know how important a stock is for a rifle.

I ended up ordering the Medalist from redhawkrifles that SJB358 recommended. I got it in green with black webbing and can't wait to get it and try it out. I think it will look good with the matte blued finish.

Thanks for the offers to answer questions when I bed it. SJB358, I have Marine Tex and JB Weld for bedding compounds. I just read this article about Accu-Risers and wanted to get some opinions about them. I looks look they are just stainless washers in different thicknesses.
