Here are a couple of my recent rifle buys. I ended up scouring the used racks at Kittery Trading Post quite a bit while I was in New Hampshire and picked up the M94 30-30 and the 336CS 35 Rem. I bought the TC Venture 22-250 new. I got the TC as it is a 1-12 twist and I am hoping it will stabilize the 60gr PT's as well as my old Savage did. I decided to try out the TC. It is an inexpensive rifle and seems suited to getting beat up, in and out of vehicles and also just toting it around on quads and anything else I might use the 22-250 for. Seems like a pretty sweet action and they are guaranteed MOA so that helps some I hope. Either way, here are a couple of pictures of them. Scotty

Looks like you did yourself proud, brother, particularly on the Marlin. Looks like pretty wood!

Note to self... hold off on the plastic rifles for a while...

Yup, totally agree on the plastic rifles. I wanted a M70 22-250 but with a 1-14 twist they won't do what I want. Plus, that TC will get abused I am sure and if I decided later down the road, a new stock would do it some more justice I am sure.

I am digging the new lever guns. I have spent all morning pouring over the load books for 35 Rem and 30-30 loads. Kinda excited to blast some rounds through them. Scotty

Some neat acquisitions there, Scotty. That is nice looking wood on the 35 Rem.

Thank you Mike. The 35 Rem kinda rounded out my 35 cals. Plus, like you saw, the wood on the Marlin is pretty neat. Don't really have many pretty rifles. Scotty

Interestingly, I've never owned a 30-30. I've shot a few, and should the right opportunity present itself, I may just buy one. Also, I've never owned a Marlin. I suspect that I'll remedy that deficit this calendar year.

I had never owned a 30-30 either, but I did have a set of old set of Pacific loading dies for the 30-30 on my bench, so I figured I might as well get a rifle to go with them!

I do like the Marlins. I just cleaned them both up and they do seem to be in great shape. I am thinking that neither may never see a scope. I might put a Skinner rear sight on the Marlin. I don't plan on stretching either of them, and they should be neat rifles for the younger shooters. Not sure. I change my mind a few times a day it seems.

Hope you add that 45-70 Marlin to your safe. I think you will enjoy one. Pretty cool loading and shooting for an old buffalo round. Scotty

Those are nice rifles! The wood on the 336 35 Rem is beautiful. Load the 35 Rem with the Remington 200 gr SPCL and don't look back. That is a great bullet for deer and bear.

Looking forward to getting some bullets for the 35 Rem. I would like some 170gr PT's for the 30-30 but I might try the 150gr BST's also. Love the lever guns. Alot of fun and nice to carry. Scotty

Let me know how your Venture shoots! I just got one in .270 Win. Bought it for trade fodder but I've been dying to shoot it. If it shoots as good as everyone says then I doubt I'll trade it. I'm headed to SE Alaska again in May so thinking if I can't get my .375 JDJ to shoot well with the new scope I'll put some optics on this and take it since it is synthetic. Plus with all the rain they get up there I like the synthetic rifles their durability especially when they get beat up in a boat.

My preference in levers is the M94 Winchester. However, that Marlin has some pretty wood. I had a .35 Rem once in a straight grip 336. Good shooter, just preferred shooting the .30-30 more so I sold it.

I hope we can put that 22-250 to good use Scotty. Very nice find with the 30-30 and 35 Rem. I have my Grandpop's Marlin 30-30 and its still a cool rifle 50 years later. That 30-30 was my first rifle and got my first deer with it.

Same here, Mike, except I got an M94 a little while ago due to a death in the family, but, surprise surprise, I've never shot it. It's in kinda rough shape, so I may (or may not) get it refinished.

If I ever find an M94 in decent shape, and at a decent price, with a 24" barrel, that sucker is gonna be mine.

BK,

I've owned four Model 94s, but three were in .356 and one was .375 Win. I do like the Model 94. I just never owned one in .30-30.

1love that 35 rem. I had great luck with mine with the 200 hornady flex tips!

Scotty,

I like the look of the 35. Other posts wrote what I was thinking when I first saw the pic. Is the Marlin out of the box like that? Seems to me that the walnut is a higher grade.

Nice collection,

Doc, I'd love to find a .375 (or even better, a .38-55) M94 for a decent price. It seems as though most that I've found (not that many) are pretty clapped out. For some reason, I don't mind bolt action project guns, but not lever projects. About as far as I want to go is slapping a receiver sight on it.

Nice collection,

As far as I know it is stock. It was on the used gun rack and as soon as I handled it, I had to think a minute or two about buying it. Well, when I saw someone else handling it, it was too much for me, I went over as soon as he was done and grabbed it. Seems to be in very good shape. Looking forward to shooting it some. I am going to through a receiver sight on it I think. Have plenty of scoped rifles. Scotty

BK,

I intend to sell my .375 shortly. I did put a Williams peep sight on it. It is in good shape and shoots quite well. I just don't use it.

Scotty,

Isn't it funny how someone else fondling the rifle we are hesitating about can induce us to act decisively?

Scotty, you are in the perfect state to use either the 30.30 or .35 Remington. I hunted with a 336 in .35 caliber for a lot of years. Gets the job done with one shot. I did put a 1.5X5 Leupold on the .336 which was easy because of the side ejection. Did you see any older (pre 64) 94's in the trading post, and if so what are they going for now?

That 35 need a Wyoming home!

I call dibs!
