I have seen people say that Magnum Primers are useful with Ball powders, esp. in cold weather. Would that be a thing with the new Winchester Staball powders?

Couldn't hurt to experiment. I've used regular primers with Staball HD in the 6.5 PRC and magnums for the 7mm PRC & 7 Rem Mag. I might try mags in the 6.5 PRC just to see.

I use a magnum primer with staball in my 280 AI with good results. Is it any better than a standard primer? I can’t say. I’ve almost exclusively gone to magnum anytime I need a LRP, for no other reason than I bought 10,000 when they were all I could snatch up last year.

Magnum vs Standard strength primers, it will never hurt to experiment. I've tried Magnum primers in some of my loads for kicks and giggles and only once did a load shoot better, and that was a 7-08, most loads shot the same while using the magnum primer. I did have a load one time that shot worse but I'm not convinced the primer was the issue. I think it was an anomaly but I never tried it again.

It's good to know that I can substitute a magnum primer if need be. Bottom line, try them out, you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find.

As previously mentioned it would not hurt to experiment. I will be doing this shortly. Winter weather in Wyoming is not shooter friendly with winds and temps.
I have a friend's 6.5 Creed that is currently loaded with Staball and CCI 250 Large Magnum Rifle primers.
He needs a load for his Bergara with 143 ELDX for deer and antelope. Those are the only primers he currently has (a bunch of them) and he does not reload.

Fun story. Chasing low SD and opened a new can of RL17 and H4831, and both took minor steps backwards. Both Stick powders. It was 27f today.
I was also trying H414 ball powder, so reloaded best loads in all three with federal 215’s.
The SD for RL 17 stayed at 9, and velocity was the same CCI 200’s vs Fed 215’s(magnum)
For H4831, again SD held at 9, but I gained an average of 25fps.
For H414, Ave velocity was the same and SD was worse, I think there must have been a loader’s error because when I looked at the shot velocities serially, I saw one outlier. Was getting 3040 and 3042, but the outlier was 2993,,, the prior H414 were all single digit SD’s, nothing under 3034, so maybe my powder throw was light somehow…
Loaded up a couple more H4831’s to push it a little faster… h414, rl17 are getting advertised v’s, but for some reasons two cans of H4831 are about 2000 gps off the pace…I should have mentioned, these are all 270 Win 130’s. NBT’s and Barnes TTSX.?
