I just upgraded my M1895 Guide gun with a DRC lever and a Stainless Steal Follower.
Both were a snap to install. I levered the action 300 times and she is slick! Fit, form and function are perfect and the lever locks up when cycled. The larger DRC loop has plenty of room for my fingers, even with a glove on. I am stocked up and ready to take it to the woods.

I will get some better pictures posted soon.

Boy, between the Marlin .45-70s, the .358 Normas, and the .270 WSMs, you guys really don't want me to have any savings, do you? :)

Looks really nice. I have sorta been looking for a Marlin, and I will probably do something like this, or the one Scotty dropped in.

A .45/70 Marlin is a magnificent hunting rifle. The minor improvements JD338 made just polish the diamond a bit. The lever itself is a really good call. Marlin apparently sizes the lever for Girl Scouts, not grown men.

JD - I like your changes. Can't abide by the scope on it - but it's your rifle, not mine!

Every Marlin Guide Gun will benefit such help. It looks both sharp and functional, Jim. Good job, for sure. Wonder why Marlin hasn't considered such a lever for their offering?

Thanks fellas.
For the life of me, I can't understand why the OE lever is so small.
The DRC lever will fit the bill for sure.

Marlin dies offer large levers in a couple models like the SBL.
Brian,

You are correct but they only offer them on the pistol grip versions. The straight grip comes with the "Girl Scout" lever.

Uh oh. I may have started something with the Girl Scout lever comment...

That was about the only thing I didn't like about my big bore Marlins. The doggone lever was made for tiny hands. I got used to working it with my pinky hanging out like I was some kind of tea sipping socialite - not a big bore levergun toting hunter!

Right on.

That is a sweetie for sure! What is your pet load for it?

I have always wanted one of these especially with a bigger loop because I like so many of the other fellas on here don't have the piano fingers of a girl scout.

That and I just love the way John Wayne whirls his around before facing the Ned Pepper gang in True Grit. He to me is one of the few actors who can be called the epitome of cool.

Was unsure whether I want the 450 or the 45-70. What is the real difference ballistically? I can't really tell in my research. Just the same, you can back me up anyday with a rifle like this!

Dale, as far as I can tell, the factory .450 are gonna be full bore loads, while the .45-70 loads can be bought anywhere from mild to retina-detaching. For a handloader I doubt there's much difference, other than .45-70 brass will be easier to find.

I have that exact same one only in blued. It reminds me of my daisy bb gun until I pick it up. I was astounded when I first got it how massive it is. Never handled one prior to that. Anyway a great addition to any collection, or group, or whatever. Love it!

Jim, first off, the lever looks great! glad you got it all installed and ready to hunt!

As for the 45-70 vs 450 Marlin, well, I went with the 45-70 as there are SCORES more available data for it and man, it is cool hunting with a cartridge that was a buffalo hunter in the day and really is very capable of taking about anything that walks, swims or crawls. It is just a beast. I don't think you would be unhappy with either, but the 45-70 is a cool cat!

Good one about the Girl Scout lever Guy. They were made for tiny fingered men or women for sure! Scotty

Go with the 45-70 and don't look back. There is a plethora of load data available from mild to wold.
