Here are a few pictures of my Marlin 1895G. I have been itching to have one and finally found one. It is a sweet rifle. I have some big plans for it. I wanna do the XS rail mount, XS rear receiver site, and a Leupold Intermediate Eye Relief scope for it. Either way, I finally have a big bore lever gun. Scotty

Whoa! Great rifle in a cartridge I'd love to have. Congratulations. It will be a hammer on any game you're likely to encounter on this continent.

Thanks fellers. Now comes the part of getting dies, cases, bullets, a set of jaws for my COAX and all the other stuff that comes along with a new caliber! Plus, I still have to figure out a scope for the beast! Scotty

A Leupold 2-8 X 36 would sure look good on there, or even a fixed power 4X.

I am thinking of a 2.5 or 4X extended eye relief scope. Kind of a scout rifle of sorts. Your right though Mike. The 2.5x8 Leupold was one of my first thoughts too. Scotty

Scotty,

Congratulations! You are going to love your 1895 Guide Gun. The 45-70 is a great ol' round and a reloaders dream. You can load it from mild to wild.
H322 is my powder of choice for both 300 gr and 405 gr bullets. The 300 gr bullets clock at 2200 fps and the 405 gr bullets are 1840 fps with accuracy under MOA for both bullets.
The soon to be released 300 gr BST will be a welcome addition for us 45-70 and 450 Marlin lovers.

I wished I could find some of the new 300gr BST's. If I can't get any of those before I start loading, I will probably go with a 350gr Hornady Flat Point. Hopefully the 300gr Partition sticks around, I would like to make that my one round for this rifle.

Pop, if I don't go with the EER scope, I will probably put a 1x4 Leupold on it. Either way, I am thinking it should be a good rifle for up close things that need some large holes poked in them! Scotty

Veddy veddy nice! I have had a serious hankerin' for an 1895GBL, I think I will have to buy one.

Congrats! My vote is for either a 1-4x20 Leupold or a reciever mounted peep sight.

Thanks Heath. I think I will start with a receiver site and then add the scope to the mix. I kinda like shooting receiver sites for regular closer ranges. Plus, they are about as strong as a sighting system can get!

I liked the GBL also, but this gave me the sad puppy dog eyes when I tried to walk away from it! Scotty

Scotty,

That would indeed be a fine scope for that particular rifle. It would allow rapid acquisition of game and would still permit shots to reasonable distances.

BST? Is this a ballistic silver tip? If so, I wonder if they'd be ok to use in a lever gun with tube magazine?

I get all soft hearted when they look at me like that also, I couldn't have passed it up either. :)

A friend had one just like your's and it was real accurate and a joy to carry.

Way to go Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great looking rifle, also would be my choice for a lever gun. I have a 3X on my 45-90 that I like really well. Also 3031 is a good powder for mine. A good day and another toy to enjoy.

A 45-70 is on my list of must haves someday. That is a fine looking rifle you have there. Best of luck with it.

Scotty,

Here is my 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70, scope is a Leupold M8 4x fixed power.

That is an impressive target, JD338. I've witnessed some exceptional groups from the 1895 and from the 1895M. They are certainly devastating on game.

That is a great looking group. I kinda hope I can get some of the 300gr Partitions. If I cannot shoot them, I may try out the Swift A-Frames. Not sure. My first run with the rifle will probably be the Hornady's. I have been having some decent luck with them, and I like the looks of the 350gr Hornady Flat Points.

Overall, I think it feels like a very portable rifle and should work well for close quarters work. I think the 2.5X Leupold or 2.75X Burris should work fine on the rifle. I will put the back up XS sights on it also.

With the 45-70 loads, do you all crimp them like 44 Rem Mag loads. Just wondering if I should just go ahead and order the Lee Factory Crimp Die right off the bat? Scotty
