med/big bore - ridiculous?

If you guys still in doubt about the power of the 375 cartridge, just look at this Zebra that my buddy Frank shot. Frank fired in a haste, driven by the urgency of the situation. I wasn't present when Frank took the shot since the PH insist that only him and Frank stalked the Zebra. From what the PH had told me, the Zebra was about to bail out on them and the only shot Frank has was in the chest. He ordered Frank to shoot of which Frank obliged. Franks fired just when the Zebra took-off and according to Frank, there was also branches and twigs on the path of the bullet which according to him might have deflected the bullet. I say it probably a combination of both. In any case the bullet entered the Zebra's stomach probably about an inch or two, exited and entered the tigh and broke the bone in half. The bullet disembowled the Zebra and killed it instantly. From the looks of it it's not a fatal shot by any means but somehow the Zebra died instantly. "My god" I said to my self, I thought the bullet entered the chest and exited out of the stomach and blown the hind legs. But it wasn't the case. Nevertheless, it's still a spectacular kill.

Yep, that's why you didn't take a .243!!!
The worst of circumstances with a big critter and he was still dinner!

I'm in full support of getting the 375 even if you never get to go anywhere but the gun range with it. Having that gun will keep the dream alive and give you a piece of that hunt in Africa even if you never make it there.

I got a 416RemMag Winchester Model 70 Custom Shop for my Birthday about 7 years ago.. I never expected to be able to go to Africa, but I wanted to own that gun. Then 5 years later a friend of mine had to cancel his trip to Africa and I ended up going in his place. So, you never know what can happen. Get it.

That is a very nice 375Wby rifle there Desert Fox, all you would need for tough stuff. Great photos and thanks for sharing again.

Thanks for putting it together. The rifle balanced well and very accurate. The PH and trackers sure appreciated it very much. It's Franks favorite rifle now. You will see it in action once Frank hand me the tape from his video camera. I believe we have footage of Franks shooting the impala, my Zebra and my friend George's Red Hartebeest.

No such thing as overkill. Gotta have fun man.

Well here we go. Got this one in Shirley basin with my 416 Bee and 300 gr Barnes at 3125 fps. 225 yard shot.... Kind of tore him up.

Okay... I just might have to scratch this itch, but it's going to be a while... Have plenty of "work" scheduled for my existing rifles for the moment.

POP, you are right, there is no such thing as overkill, dead is dead, but there is such a thing as OVER MESS and you just proved it.

The Mess I see in these pictures is still a Mess. Now you all know I like big guns I have had them from 458Win, 45/70, 416Wby, 375Wby and I still like big guns but hey, I could have killed everything above just as dead without the mess, using my 300Wby, 35Win, or 30-06. Now don't get all excited, I said without the MESS!!!!!

POP, that is very good shooting to hit that P-dog at 225yds with the 416Wby. You could have it the ground around that P-don and if you hit within three feet of him, that 416Wby and the flying rocks could have finished him off.

POP,

Get a larger rifle. Looks like that one almost got away.

Not my fault! HE CHARGED ME, SO I 416 BEE'D HIM!!!!!!!

No guff,

I shot a woodchuck many years back. When I went to recover him, I had only clipped him and he charged me. My stopping rifle was a M70 XCR 243 Win loaded with 70 gr BT's, and stopped the charge at about 10-12 feet.
