Hi fellas,
Due to a recent death I have inherited a old Winchester 70 Ranger in .30-06, I was thinking of restocking it & giving it to my son. My question is this, will a after market stock for a model 70 LA fit the model 70 Ranger?
Thanks,

I think the Ranger was a low cost version of the M70, maybe a birch stock.
I would contact one of the stock makers like HS Precission and ask them.

That is right JD. It is a very plain jane birch stock, push feed model 70. Sears, J.C. Penny & places like that carried them. Along with calling H-S I was also looking at the Accurate Inovation stocks.

Any stock made for "drop-in fit" for a Model 70 should fit your gun. There was no difference in the receiver, just the finish and the cheap stock (which you've already decided to replace). All the options mentioned are spot-on, and you could also check out the various stocks made by Boyd's. You can view them here:

I know Cabela's has recently started selling the thumbhole and JRS Classic stocks, so you might check their prices as well.

Might want to check out Bell & Carlson medallion model also. Can't go wrong with hs either.
