My mom killed her buck opening morning, bedded at 240 yards. Nice little 3x4. We spotted him just on the edge of some timber from about 1/2 mile and made a game plan to sneak into range. We snuck up the opposite ridge, peeked over and set up my 7-300 Win Mag w/180g ELDMs at 3K, prone on the harris bipod and a range finder case for the rear bag. Set the 5.5-22x NXS to 16x and she had a perfect broadside shoulder shot. I told her to just squeeze the trigger and boom! I heard the 180g ELDM hit home and the buck just slumped his head over. We found the 180g ELDM just under the far side hide after completely smashing through the front shoulders, and leaving a 3" hole along the way.

And a lovely buck he was! Congratulations to your Mom for a superb execution of the stalk.

Jorey,
Congratulations to your mom on a dandy buck. She made a great shot. Honorable mention to you on your guiding and coaching.
Nicely done!

Congratulations on your Mom's and your success. That is a great looking buck.

Thanks everyone, I'll pass along the kind words. She was definitely a happy camper. Glad I could help out and be a part of it.

Here are a couple pics of the bullet. The core did stay intact, but after scrubbing the bullet during the cleaning process it did fall out. It only weighed 48g which is about typical in my experience of about 25%-35% weight retention with the ELDMs.

I think that is awesome! My mom used to hunt all the time with a savage model 99 in 300 savage caliber.

She killed a lot of deer with that thing over the years.
