147gr seems pretty light for a 338 monometal bullet. What was the unfired weight?
 
225 but it penetrated over 6 feet of moose.

That is some serious penetration! And over 5000 ft pounds of energy at impact is impressive. Ya just gotta love the on game performance of the fast 338's.

I can tell you that a bull moose cut and vacuum sealed will fit into 2 120 quart coolers. It's a lot of meat!

How many pounds did you get out of yours Jim

All I know is mine's going to cost about 7 to $800 to butcher

Okay this is a Barnes 225 grain ttsx. muzzle velocity was 3,150 ft per second. It probably hit him.... In a center in the chest-on a facing shot...... at close to 3,000 ft per second and recovered in the rear of the left ham. Considering it hit an animal that's built like a tank 147 grains retained weight is not bad at all. I would never expect any mono metal bullet to retain more weight under these circumstances
