Moose Opens in Thirteen Days

Of course I'm pushing hard, Charlie. Were he not here, you are correct to surmise that I would not be spending much time afield. The full moon and the excess moisture are real killers. However, I have an entire season running to October 31st to hunt moose. I do want him to connect, however. If he comes back up for deer, he will miss moose this year. Oh, yes, he is learning about hard hunting.

That is good for him. He needs to learn that hunting is not just shooting game. I hope that he enjoys it enough and wants the challenge enough to become a hunter. Good luck with him in ths endevor DrMike.

Charlie, it is a great education the lad is getting. Plus, it is just fun for him to be away from his mother and siblings and have some attention to himself. He is conscientious in the bush, quickly absorbing every lesson I am able to give. He is a joy to teach.

For his birthday a couple of weeks past, his mother bought him archery lessons. He has earned enough money to buy a pretty good setup for his age/strength class.

Mike he has a excellent teacher . His love for the outdoor will always benefit him as he continues to grow into a young man. Besides he comes from real good stock .

Blessings,
Dan

I'm excited to see what those 150's do on moose Mike. Be very cool for you to put something large on the ground with them. I'm hoping Noah and you can close the gap soon!

I'm pushing to connect Noah before we take him back for school. I'm not too concerned for myself as I have two months to connect.

Me too Mike. I wanna see that boy straddling a moose. Just imagine no one could take that smile from him. Good luck. I hope Noah is getting a nap in order to get ready for a good dinner and some sleep!

Noah's grandma is one of his biggest fans on this hunt. We're going to get a good night's sleep tonight and hit it early tomorrow. I'm building a fire in the firepit tonight so we can roast hotdogs. Then, we'll turn in early and hit it hard again tomorrow. There is a cow with two calves coming into a dugout close by. One of her twins is a bull with his first growth of headgear, which would be just perfect for Noah.

Dr Mike,
Pulling for you and Noah to have success. Looking forward to a good report.

Don

Mike have a great evening :) at the fire pit. I sure hope that tomorrow that young bull comes in for Noah. What a story he will have for his school mates!!
Good luck Noah, I hope both you & grandpa have a great hunt tomorrow!!!
Be safe & have fun!!
Blessing,
Dan

Best of luck to the Mighty Moose Hunters!

So far, we are definitely hunters, as we are not shooters.

Best of luck hoping you guys can track one down. I find the younger juvenile bulls may repond to a few mournful cow calls, it is early but worth a try.

On multiple occasions I've certainly called young bulls in with judicious cow calling. I've actually had them trot up to within forty yards of me while I was seated in a truck. We saw a couple of nice muley bucks this morning and a cow moose, but nothing with antlers on the head. We're heading back out this afternoon to move in toward a lick that should hold moose. I had a pretty sleepy hunting partner this morning. I suggested he might want a nap today before we head back out this afternoon. It froze last evening; temperature was 3 C (37 F) this morning and a clear sky--ideal for moose hunting.

Hi Mike how the weather changes. Three weeks ago we had a couple of mornings that it was 4C and now we are in the middle of a heat wave. It stated that this week is going to be the warmest of the summer:) With our farming population it is a real good thing as the crops are looking really good but a little bit behind because of our cool spring and early summer.
Hopefully this evening you and Noah will connect .
Thank you for the updates my friend.

Blessings,
Dan

Wow, hopefully the moose start moving with the weather change Mike. That cold snap sounds like just the ticket.

I'd imagine the boy is pretty tired, but I give him alot of credit for toughing it out. Sounds like he is very dedicated to making this happen.

The weather change is positive, though the highs for the afternoon will be somewhat uncomfortable. Still, with only two days, we need to work hard. He's pretty good to stay at the task. He wants a picture of him kissing a moose.

Me too! We would have to make a pretty good frame for that picture. Pretty sure I can find some pretty wood for a frame!
