Very nice Mike. Sounds like Noah is going to be very well equipped for the upcoming deer hunt. Can't wait to hear how the rifle shoots when it is tuned up...
That is great Mike, I bet he is just itching to get a crack with that new rifle . This will be a summer that both of you will remember forever!!
I can't wait until my grand kids are of that age!!!
Keep up the good work Mike .
Reading this post gets me excited for our annual moose hunting trip. Good on you Mike. As mentioned, best of luck.
Our season starts on the Aug.25 for bow, then opens Sept.1 for rifle in the WMU we have tags in.
I got drawn this year along with 3 others in our moose hunting group. Plus I got my cow elk draw along with 3 others so we should have lots of meat and good eats for the 9 families this year again.
We leave Oct.5 or 6th this year with Thanksgiving being later now. CANT WAIT !!
Saw several moose, including one young bull, a black bear sow and three cubs and a large whitetail doe. The young bull was well after shooting light when we were just coming out of the bush. This full moon is making the animals tend to be nocturnal, which does make hunting somewhat challenging.
I glassed a moose at ~600 yards this morning, but in the dark and standing against the tree line, I couldn't distinguish whether it was a bull or a cow. We know there is a cow with twin two year old calves coming into a watering hole. We were set up for one of these calves, anticipating that there should be a young bull. We were moosed today, as none came into our setup. We'll give it another shot this evening. I tell ya', this three o'clock business isn't all it is cut out to be.
Thought I'd give a quit update. Noah and I hunted a new area yesterday and this morning. We saw a moose at ~600 yards yesterday. However, it stood against the tree line, and in the darkness of the early morning we could make out whether it was a bull or a cow. Before it began to grow lighter, he moved back into the trees. Something similar happened this morning. The only difference was that it was 306 yards from our hide. Well before first light, the moose appeared to be browsing on limbs before moving back into the trees. This is getting old. We're giving it a good effort. I loaded up some of the 150 grain ABLR bullets to use in my 280 Remington; I believe this load will work just fine for when Bullwinkle slips up and gives me a good shot.
You are just trying to push Mother Nuture for your Grandson before he has to leave for school. With the bright full moon this week it will be tough though. You said that Noah was coming back for a whitetail hunt later, it may have to be then. I know how you feel, I would be pushing it for the boy myself! Besides he has to learn that it happens when it happens.
