I have been offered a job in Gilbert AZ (outside Phoenix) doing the same thing I am doing here....... spacecraft controller (I fly satellites). Anyway, fill me in as far as hunting opportunities go. Big game, varmints, small game and fishing!!!!
Place looks great but I am not sure.....
Thanx guys

Fotis,

I have Arizona blood in me.

There are 10 different big game animals available to hunt in AZ.
Premier state for elk. Also have Desert Big Horn, Antelope, Coues Deer, Mule Deer, Cougar, Buffalo, Javelina, Black Bear and Merriam Turkeys.

You are going to need a few more guns + a six shooter and cowboy hat.

There is also a nice gun club in Scottsdale.

General tags or all draw with no chance of drawing?

I'm not sure but I think most are draw. Being a resident will increase your odds though.

Happy New Year!

POP,

Thinking about trading the Wind for some Heat ??

It's been a few years back, but I've been on the southern end archery hunting for Coues Deer. We just bought a tag... don't know if that was the same for Rifle though.
I know the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has some Monster Mulies.. good ole Kiabab National Forest.... definately a draw there and as JD stated being a Resident certianly ups your odds.

POP.... I hear ya.... I never did hear a final report, but wholly  Tuesday was incredible here.

Pop, I never been to Arizona but I hunted coyotes in Cheyenne Monday. Is there an opening for a SATCOM job there now?

Nope just transferring there if I choose to......

Dude!!!!!

I have the following virgin guns, (some for months), waiting for a break in the wind.......

AR 15 223
378 WBY
Marlin 30-30
Browning Buckmark 22
Winchester 94 356

Right now 2100 hours........winds are gusting past 40 mph. My house feels like it is about to blow away!

Pop,

Just wait until its 2100 hours and its cooled down to 98*F with no breeze. :p

No wind though....and your roof is not going for a ride...

Down there I will have a heavenly Greek Goddess body ( no sheeeat!) in a swimming pool when it gets hot out.

Only drawback....cooling barrels at the range! 8)

POP,

WOW, you've had the AR for a bit now..... I know you were excited to see how it did.... I was / am too !!

There are a couple others there that you have that umm.... does the wind bother / hinder those cannons ?

I can say when we were down there hunting it snowed in Tucson while we were there....
This is just a doe, but has to be one of my most prized animals I've taken.

Funny thing, I haven't got much range time this month either, it's been
-38C or F they are the same at -38. Starting to warm up tho, it's about
-15F.

I hear ya, my guns really don't get any use in the bitter cold and shooting in the wind is very frusterating too. Most of the time it's case prep time, tumble and sort brass from december til march.

If you can get that 30-378 zero'd it'll shoot in 25MPH quite well out to 300yds as long as it's not gusting.

Not a resident...yet but may become one....pending on the spousal unit!

Hey Pop,

My wifes family lived in the Phoenix valley for over 20 years. They got tired of the heat and all the illegals. Moved to LaGrange a few years ago and would take the wind and the hunting opportunities in Wy any time.
Az is a beautiful state but everything bites, stabs and picks there and the heat is dry but just plain too hot!

I would love to live in Wy but Az ...not for me.

Pop-
You already know- everything is a trade off. I love SD and eastern Wyo. But thats me. Im in self imposed exile in the big city in Mn. Probably here till the find me froze to a tree with the rifle across my knees (if I'm lucky). Having said that I think they got a few really big goats in AZ and NM. Good luck with whatever you choose!! CL

Hey Pop, what happened to Florida? Arizona is some big change from the sunshine state. Having had a friend that lived in AZ I was told the same thing about bitey, stingy stuff.

Well, after retirement from the USAF I got tied up with this company and living in these times, going somewhere and starting from scratch does not make sense to me. So if I move to Gilbert AZ I have a job and can start the day after.
