How many own rifles of the same chambering? If you need to justify this how would you?

Also why would you own say 6 30-06's or whatever......

Two .280s--one a Winchester Featherweight and the other a Remington Ltd. I tried to give away the Featherweight to a friend in the States. ATF was adamant that it was impossible to send a rifle into the USA. Argued that it was built in New Haven and I was only returning the rifle to its natal land. It may still get there, but this has gone on for about three years now. I'm hanging onto it until this is resolved.

Three Model 94s in .356 and three more in .307. I just enjoy picking them up and making them deliver excellent groups. Impossible to justify owning them, and I don't try. If I see another .356 or .307 at a reasonable price, I might pick up another. I gave one .356 to my hunting partner. I did sell a couple of Model 94s in .375.

There is no accounting for collections; they just happen.

I have 3) .223's and 3 AR15 lowers, 2) 6mm Rem, 2) .243AI, 2) 6.5x47 Lapua, 2) 6.5saum, 2) 6.5-300wm, 3) 7-300wm, 2) 7STW, 3) 300wm, 2) 30-06, 2) 30-8mm, and 2) 338 Baer. I have the parts to make a second 300wsm and 30-338 Norma Imp. I'll probably finish the second 30-338 Norma Imp in the next couple weeks.

I don't have to justify it I just build 2 or 3

Let's see same cartridge.

.22 LR X 2 (bolt)
.204 X 2 (single shot)
.223 X 6 (4 bolt, 1 AR, 1 single shot)
.243 X 2 (bolt)
.270 X 2 (bolt)
.30-30 X 2 (1 lever, 1 bolt)
.300 BLK X 2 (1 bolt, 1 single shot)
.300 Sav X 2 (bolt)
.30-06 X 2 (bolt)
.338-06 X 2 (bolt)

Same caliber it changes a little.

6mm/.243 X 3
.257 X 2
.308 X 11

I justify them, because I wanted them. I wound up one time with 6 rifles in .30-06, four of them were Winchester classics, 1 JC Higgins FN Mauser, and a Stevens 200 I was searching for a donor action for a .338-06 and a replacement for an 06 I had traded for a Savage 99 in .358 Win. When I found what I was looking for I sold and traded the rest off.

I have 5 308s in my gunsafe. They all are different configurations.

A single shot for training youngsters

And a ruger American lefty for my son. That's the only one I have duplicates of right now, but have no problem justifyingthem

To replace one that may become inoperative. I keep ammo ( the same ammo for both rifles) in several different places. Camp, transportation vehicle, my body and both rifles with me at all times.

I have 2 .270s and until recently had 2 7-08s.

The .270s are easy- one is mine and one is a lefty version for my son. The 7-08s were both Evan's...One slightly bigger than the other as he grew. I've had multiples of other guns in the past, I buy rifles I like more or less irrespective of cartridge.

The post of the night
" I don't have to justify it I just build 2 or 3"
I have pretty much gotten rid of duplication, but my recent trade netted me my third 7 mm, and I do have two ,223. I have a 06 AI that I would like to trade for something, but not sure what. I still have more than I need, or want.

I had 2 30-06 Remington's, a 700 and a 742 carbine.
I ended up selling them both.

Well....

5 .30-06's. My Rem 700 ADL was the first big game rifle I bought for myself and I don't see myself ever getting rid of it. The other 4 are sporterized Springfields. One I really like, 2 were too good to pass up, the third my Grandad gave to my Dad. Somehow it ended up at my house. And there is a 6th, a Savage I picked up for Dad and it's back in Wisconsin.

3 in the 7x57. My very first rifle given to me by Grandad, an 1895 Chilean Mauser that will never leave. My Ruger No 1 I took to Africa and a twin to it I picked up a little over a year ago. I figure I have two daughters, one for each of them:)

2 in the .223. A Rem 788 and an AR. Grandad had the 788 and I never owned an AR until a few years ago so I figured what the heck.

2 in the 7mm-08. I just had to buy the Kimber after my daughter stole my Rem model 7.

.22's..... Several, just because you can never have too many .22's

I didn't even think of .22s....gosh, I can't remember a time I only had one .22...or 12 and 20 gauges for that matter.

Duplicate calibers...let's see...

22; 22LR in a Ruger 10/22 RSI and Winchester 69A, and Ruger 10/22 (Susan's)
.257; 250 Savage in a Ruger 77 RSI, Ruger No. 1 (Susan's) and my 250AI (shoots factory 250 ammo)
.264; Custom X-Bolt in 6.5 Creedmoor, Sako 85 VLS in 260 Rem and Sako 85 LH Hunter in 6.5x55 (on order)
.277; 270 Wby in Browning B-78 and a 270 Win in Remington 700 Titanium (daughter's), and a Ruger 77 LH that is to be rebarrelled to a 9.3x62
.284; Steyr Mountain Classic in 7mm-08 (Susan's), Winchester 88 in .284 Win, Remington 700 LH in .280 Rem and custom Sako AV LH in 7mm STW
.308; Marlin 336 GBL in 30-30 and custom Remington 700 LH in 300 WSM
.338; custom Remington 700 LH in 338-06 and custom Winchester 88 in 338 Federal
.358; Winchester 94 in 356 Win and Browning BLR in 358 Win: also have a Remington 700 LH short action rifle that is going to become a .358 Win
.375; Marlin 375S in 375 Win and custom Ruger 77 LH in 376 Steyr
.410; 41 Rem Mag in Marlin 1894, S&W Model 57 and Ruger Super Blackhawk

Duplicate cartridges in various firearms...

The 22LR, 250 Savage and 41 Rem Mag, with plans for the 358 Win

Because I can!!!

I forgot 22LR's and .270's. I have 2 of each of those too. I also have 6 .50 caliber muzzleloader and 1 .54 caliber. If we're talking shotguns I have 3) 20ga, 7) 12ga, and 3) 10ga.

I guess I'm a hoarder of sorts.

Yup! Forgot that I have two .358 Winchesters--one in a BLR and one a Ruger Hawkeye. Each shoots to less than 0.5 MOA with selected ammunition. Hard to justify; harder still to let either go.

Yes.

No one else pays attention to what's in my collection, so I don't have to justify having more than one.
However, it's time that some of my duplicates move along. I suspect that will happen soon.

Usually I like the rifle, and it may be the wood or the story or the configuration. Sometimes I hate passing up a really good deal.
Sometimes I purchase one with the intent of replacing one I already own...but never get around to selling the first one.

AR 15 5.56 16" truck 18" fluted hunting and 20" bull target . 30/06 Savage deer stand and 30/06 handy rifle for walking around and backup in case someone has a malfunction . Oh and a Marlin 44 mag and Ruger 44 mag ( pre 86 )

Justify????????????????????????????

On the back of your man card it clearly states that we do not have to justify the desire for a rifle.

It also states that we may be clever in how we accomplish our goals................... :>)

Well, I'll be... Hadn't put my glasses on when reading the fine print, Charles! You mean to tell me there are men who don't own duplicates?

Just bought my 7th XXII. This one is a well-used shooter that I intend to use as much as able. If you can wear one out, I'm going to try.
