Hey guy's as the title says I finally got myself a revolver. It is a Ruger GP100 357 Mag with a 4 inch barrel. It came with 2 speed loaders and a custom fit holster. I paid only $350.00 for it. What do you think?

Certainly a handsome wheelgun. Classic cartridge. I believe Bill Jordan would be proud of you.

That is a good choice! Congratulations on your first revolver.

Thanks guy's. I haven't shot it yet but I am hoping that it was worth the $350.00 I spent on it. It is used but it is in terrific shape.

Very nice. Sounds like you got a great price on a gun that will last 4 ever!

Thanks guy's! It is a blast to shoot with no recoil shooting the federal 38 special +p loads. Shooting the 357 mag loads has a little recoil but not like people make them out to be. Does anyone have any loads for the 357 mag? It would be greatly appreciated.

You may not have a load of IMR 700x sitting around but I do so I developed these loads to use it up in the 38 special and 357mag

First load 38special
140gr Hornady HP/XTP
3.8gr IMR 700x
REM 5 1/2 small pistol primer

Second 357mag
140 Hornady HP/XTP
5.8gr IMR 700x
WIN small pistol mag primer

The 38special load has almost no recoil out of a taurus model 85 snubbie, and the 357 load will shoot chew can sized groups at 50yds and put deer down for good. Good luck!

About a million years ago when I got my first revolver, I chose a .357 as well. I'd heard so many stories of the prodigious blast and recoil that I handloaded .38's for it at first... Really, really mild handloads that likely hit about 500 fps with a soft lead bullet...

Dad and I went up in the hills and set up a chunk of 3/4" plywood, the put a few targets on the board. We stepped back about 10 yards and Dad riddled the target with his .22 long rifle Colt Woodsman semi-auto.

I carefully thumbed back the hammer on my Colt Trooper Mk III, might have closed my eyes, and pulled the trigger. Amazingly I discovered that I was still alive and intact after the shot. I fired the other five cartridges. Of the six: two went through the plywood. Two stuck in it. Two bounced off.

Dad was laughing so hard he couldn't stand up straight... Here was his kid, a "tough" U.S. Marine, and my fearsome .357 mag wouldn't even defeat plywood!

I tended to load 'em from the other end of the load manual after that...

I have a gp100 just like the one shown in the picture. 13 gr. 2400, 158 XTP, cci 500 primer, shoots very well/ chron'd 1065 fps with 4" barrel. 16 gr. H-110 , cci 550 primer, 158 XTP/ 1200 fps. Anyone got any good loads to add for the 357 Mag?
