Well, finally decided to drink the 6mm/243 Kool Aid. I've never owned a 6mm/.243 anything, so I had to see what all the hype was about and built a 6mm-06. :)

I had a Rem 700, 25-06 that hasn't seen much use lately, so decided to cannibalize the action and build a 6mm-06. Looked long and hard at the 240 Weatherby and 6-284, but decided on the 6-06 since I already had lots of 25-06 brass and knew it would feed perfectly out of the existing magazine. Can't wait to put some rounds down range. I have 105 Amaxes and VLD's ready to rock.

Specs:

Remington 700 Action
Brux 8 Twist, 26 inch, Rem Sporter Contour
Chamber cut for long bullets
Bell and Carlson Medalist
Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X44 Rapid Z 800

Nice looking rifle! It should cook! I am too old now to to worry about shooting anything that requires regular barrel replacement. I have a 7 MM Rem Mag which I have had for 42 years now with the original factory barrel on it. I have probably put 1500 rounds through it in 40 years but it still shoots sub moa.

Let us know what kind of speeds and accuracy you get with this rifle. It should be a varminter supreme.

You've built a handsome rifle in a most interesting cartridge. I'm certain your load work will be fascinating. There is some quality in the rifle. Congratulations.

Wow that thing looks all Business!!!

Can't wait to see some range time. Like Charlie said it is gonna throw some serious speeds.

Once you drink the 6mm Kook Aid you never go back! :) I think you will be very happy with that rifle. It looks all business and very well thought out for sure. I can't wait to see how it performs.

That's cool!

A good looking rifle in a very interesting cartridge. Should get some good velocity out of that puppy!

I think you just invented the Nosler24 !! :) Actually, in terms of the ratios of case capacity to bullet diameter, you are very close! Anxious for the shooting results and pics...EE2

Thanks for the nice compliments guy's. I'm really excited about this rifle. The ballistics of a high BC 6mm bullet beyond 500 yards are eye opening. Puts lots of faster, bigger caliber cartridges to shame. My personal range limit for deer type game is 500 yds, although this rig may extend that a bit. However, for predators and hogs I'll go much further and that's the primary reason for this gun/cartridge. We have one particular blind on our property that sits at the end of a field that's about 800 yards in length. It's not uncommon to see a coyote or hog crossing the far, opposite end. I built this rifle with that fact in mind. Can't wait to find a load and start hunting with it.

Yes, definitely a little overbore, but barrels are cheap. Plus, I'm use to shooting Weatherby's so burning 55 grains of powder as opposed to 70 will be an added bonus.

Nice long range deer/antelope/predator gun, should do everything you would want nicely. I like that it is a nice and sleek sporter and not too heavy or strange looking. It looks great.

Very Nice rifle -gonna be interesting to see the Velocity out of it - case capactiy is similiar to the 240 Bee !

6 MM Kool Aid is is the curtrrent drink of choice ! LOL

Cheers :) RJ

I agree completely Gerry. Everything is very well balanced and the scope just looks perfect on there also.

I just wish that they would load some high BC, ABLR in an 1:8 twist barrel and see what we have then!

Except its not a ROY WEATHERBY case ! LOL

I know, I know. I feel like I'm cheating on my wife. Besides Fotis, you'll probably not find a bigger Weatherby fanboy. I initially had my mind made up on the 240, but I had so much 25-06 brass on hand and from what I researched, the 6-06 had a smidge more case capacity so, I changed direction and went with the 06. At some point though, I'm going to pick up a VG2 240.

Your FORGIVEN for now - redemtion will be when you get your VG 2 - Just got my VG 2 240 WB !

Cheers :) RJ

That is a great looking rifle but looks to be all business :)!
With the quality components used it should be a real good long range deer rifle!!

Blessings,
Dan
