I am currently developing loads for my 7 mm STW. Mine is a Ruger #1 with a 28 inch Kreiger barrel. I have several 160 Accubonds bullets and various powders to try. Do you have any starting points or preferred loads?

I will not start at your developed point but build up slowly watching the FPS and pressure signs for limiting points.

Has anyone noticed a preferred point from the lands your rifle likes. I know each rifle is different but a starting point would be interesting to note.

I would like to get close to 3500 fps if possible with the 160 accubonds in my 7STW.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP
ODAVID

mine has a 26" lilja on it. I load 94 gr of WC872 behind the 160 accubonds for 3340 fps. 3500 fps would really be smoking in an STW, don't think it'll make it without pushing it very hard.
RR

Has a 26 inch tube,
It shoots the 160 acubond extreamly well with RL-25 IMR 7828 and startelingly well with H-1000.
I have shot groups you simply would not believe with the last powder.
I have gotten near 3300 fps.
If you can get 3350 or so with you #1 you sould be very happy.
A *1 is a very strong action, but you are getting into risky teitory for very little real world gain.
If you want 3500 , I would recomend you see if you have enough steel to rebore your barrel, to the .378 weatherby case.
7mm X378 weatherby should give you enough powder space, but would you have enough steel left to hold the preasure ?
who knows...tj3006

I realize 3500 is too steep of a goal and probably obtainable only with a great price if even then achievable.

Has anyone noticed a preferred point from the lands the accubonds like??? I know each rifle is different but a starting point would be interesting to note.

thanks again

David, check you PM.
My barrel is a little longer then your, at 30". I was only able to achieve 3375-3400 with my 26", so 3500 might be a little out of reach for a 28", but you should still be able to make the antelope quiver with fear from a verrrry long range.

odavid, welcome  I agree with JD338, only us guys with 7mm RUMs get close to 3500 ft./sec. :p Best I got was 3450 in my RUM with 160 AB. Don't be afraid to try Retumbo or H50BMG. Mine loves H50BMG & 10 off touch. Just don't do what I did yesterday on my deer & pull your shot. The gut absolutely exploded! Fortunately I was able to clean out the mess quickly & the loss was minimal. Got a little too cocky & didn't concentrate  Enjoy your STW. I think 160 AB or NP will rock in your STW :)

Yep, I hit an antelope this year on a quartering shot that went throught he guts. BLEW HALF DIGESTED GRASS SIX FEET OUT THE BACK OF IT.
Needless to say, it was DRT.

Kirby Allen's 277 Allen Mag or 7mm Allen Mag would likely get you to 3500 with a 7mm 160 grn. Although, whether the 150-200FPS is worth that much money, bout the cheapest way to build one would be one a Mark V WBY in a 378 bolt face. THat isn't a cheap proposition, but it sounds fun  Most sane people choose a RUM or STW.
