I converted a stagger feed blind magazine Savage 12FV to 223AI and would like to shoot the long 75gr Amax to the lands. The mag length won't allow me to get where I need without single feeding. I noticed the existing mag has, for lack of a better term, a spacer which should give me about 3/8" or more length if it was not there. The Savage seems to have a long short action and was wondering if a 243 box will work? Any other suggestions?

I have removed spacers in a couple magazines without a problem but encountered one that would not feed properly. hAd to alter the magazine lips to correct the problem. I am not familiar with the mag in question so can't say for sure. I would go to your favorite gun shop with your rifle and some dummy rounds. Ask if you could try a 243 mag box. Or if you can remove the spacer without permanent change to yours, try that.Rick.

Can you ask Savage that question? There might be a problem with the follower it the rear spacer is moved, it (the follower) might be to short to function in the longer space. . I think Rick has the answer other than that, I have one or two rifles that have a spacer built it because they use that rifle for a number of different cartridges. Never had to take one out though.
