New Athlon Doppler Chrono Unit $350

that's where i ordered 1 from also. no tax and no shipping to Texas for $349, but won't ship till after 6/17/25 as it's all on pre-orders. can't beat that price as it's $50-125 cheaper than everyone else!

btw, i have the velociradar to compare a side-by-side. i'll order a garmin xero also and maybe a lab lx and fx true ballistic. i don't mind having 5 chronos, just hope the doppler's don't interfere with each other?

I have 4 now or I will. Chrony Beta, FX, Athlon ,and Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX Bluetooth
what do you like or not like about the fx compared to the rest? to me the base seems to light from videos i've watched where as not as stable? i guess you could always add some weight to it or mount it another way? i found a couple at a reasonable price and might give it a go?

It is the easiest to use. Turn it on and use. No matter what the velocity range is.
I tried pistol with the Garmin and the FX. Target was at at 10 yards. Set the garmin for pistol velocities and no reading. Again and again, The FX gave me readings right away and everytime ...... 850 fps with my 44 special and 200 grain cast. The garmin has to have a certain minimum distance for pistol. The FX none required. Not a deal breaker but still. Also the FX will show different velocities at set yardages like the Labradar, and the BC in the end.

Is it just projecting the fps at distance or actually tracking the thing?

What model is this "FX" again?

A picture would be grand

My Garmin picked up velocities from couple different pistols in 9mm and 45acp.

The one I did did not read within 7 yards. I'm sure it does at a farther distance.

If it doesn't read pistol velocities, it's of no use to me. I need muzzle velocities for my .45acp and .38 Super so I can create accurate loads and to keep the velocities low enough, so they don't lead my barrels.

No it does.. but it needs a minimum of like 10-15 yards. I was doing my testing at 21 ft for a combat fixed sight weapon.

Thanks for the response Fotis.
My targets are at 25 and 50yds, 10- 21yds is cutting it pretty far to get an actual good muzzle velocity, isn't it? I'm just used to setting my Chrony up at 10ft from the muzzle and don't understand how the Garmin can give a reading for velocity at the muzzle.

My Garmin is a little fussy with my bench set up. If I’m out in the open it’s fine , but at my one bench where I have a large tube I shoot thru it misses a few.

Got mine yesterday in the mail.

Very easy to use. Much easier than the Labradar or the Garmins I have used in the past. I did not even have to use the manual at all.

Took it to my back yard with an old Crosman air rifle using BB's. Read every single shot. 511 506 498 and 501 fps. No issues so far. Going to the range this weekend with the FX to put them up against each other.

I've had the Garmin almost a year now, but have only used it the last couple months. It's worked flawless on everything from my 22 cal springer airgun at 750fps, to standard velocity 22 LRs at 1000-1100fps, 22 and 9mm pistols, and a good variety of centerfire rifles. It hasn't dropped 1 shot for me. I'm going to give my competition electronics away to a new shooter as I have zero use for it anymore.

I'm personally not sold on Athlon products and will stick with the Garmin. But if the Athlon works at $200 less, than a guy really can't complain.
