Hoping this is an enjoyable thread. I'm a new guy here thanks to my bud Scotty(Beretz). Offered in another thread to post some pics, so thought a new thread was the right place.

Thanks.

Mike,

You live in BC and from what I've seen the beauty there would blow CO out of the water. Someday I hope to make it north in to BC and AB.

Whew! Awesome pictures Kelly! Without a doubt those are some of the best yet. Those elk pictures made me sweat a little. Talk about a single animal getting under my skin! Elk in general make me all giddy!

Kelly, if you get a chance, take a look at Guy Miner's pictures of Washington State. He hunts/hikes near the Columbia River area and has some great pictures also. Scotty

I grew up in Kansas. I've been privileged to live in New York, Louisiana, Texas and California before moving to British Columbia. I haven't lived anyplace that didn't have beautiful scenery and great people. Whilst I love where I now live, I recall with great delight the beauty of each region of the United States, a beautiful and glorious land.

Thanks bud. I'm like you or probably way worse. I'd forsake all other animals just to hunt elk as much as possible. Its a serious disease with no cure!

Checked out some of Guy Miner's stuff and it is most excellent. Will keep looking around to find more!

Dr. Mike,

I hear you. Every place you go has its charms and the states you have been in are some of the best. Personally I can only claim having been in KS and Cali and found both pretty nice. I'm heading to WI to hunt with a great friend this year and it will be my first trip to that state and first time hunting whitetails. Think I'm going to enjoy the hardwoods that we don't have here.

Beautiful pictures and welcome to Nosler. Sure are some good people here! I believe most of us here want Canada, if not the whole country, but at least BC, Alberta, Yukon, and NW Territories to become part of the United States! We like you Canadians Dr. Mike.

Lol. That's too funny and I agree wholeheartedly. Personally I think we should take the U.S. mountain west, combine it with the above mentioned Canadian provinces and make our own western hunting country! We'll invite all our eastern buds to hunt and fish to their hearts delight!!

So far guys I truly like everyone I've met here and the forum in general. Going to be a nice place to hang out and enjoy the relaxed state.

Ok, 2 more pictures. Both shameless plugs for both the forum sponsor and a few of my favorite pieces of gear!

Those could become out 51st (BC), 52nd (Alberta), 53rd (NWT), 54th (Yukon) and the 55th (Manitoba) states! I would vote for that, and even ask to be assigned to the most Northern places. You know, just for our security..

Yup, I am sold. Plus, you have been talking about wanting to be able to get bullets from the SPS Mike, I can't think of a better way to open up the border, than just to make you states!

Kelly, great looking gear. I see you have some 150's for the 270 and 180's for what I assume your 300. Your powders are right on too. Man, I am looking forward to your load work. I know it has been a long time coming. Hoping the snow clears off a little so you can get some range time. Scotty

Scotty,
First, I'm hoping you'll make it to CO in 2013. Really want to shake your hand along with your Marine brother Mike.

As to the shooting and reloads, its ground to a halt as you know. Really, really want to get out and put that .243 through its paces. Also want to load those NP's for the .270 and .300WM for this fall's elk hunt. Its just a matter of matching the Fed ammo for the .270 and then playing with the .300 to see if those 180's will shoot. Besides the powder in the photo I've also got some RL22 and 4831 sitting at the house.

Yes that is the .243 Scotty. You know all too well how I feel about that rifle and scope.

Very nice looking Remington 700 BDL with a Leupold scope........okay we gotta keep him! He appears pretty darn squared away to me!

Right on!! I'm finally getting full on membership!

Just to add a little more icing, here's 2 pics before I scoped the .243. Its the lower one and my .300WM is the top one. Also Leupold scoped and sitting in Leupold QR rings and bases. Never know when you need those open sights for hunting elk in the deep, dark timber!

You have been talking about wanting to be able to get bullets from the SPS Mike, I can't think of a better way to open up the border, than just to make you states!

Now you're hitting low. You left out Saskatchewan! There is a lot of distance between Alberta and Manitoba! Here is western Canada, we're all rednecks, save for the cities. Rural Canada has some of the finest people on earth, just as is true of the States.

I think we should take the U.S. mountain west, combine it with the above mentioned Canadian provinces and make our own western hunting country! We'll invite all our eastern buds to hunt and fish to their hearts delight!!

Over the years, there has been talk of such a move, naming the area Cascadia. It would include BC, Oregon and Washington. Canadian advocates who truly agitate for this move frequently speak of including Alberta and Idaho. Undoubtedly, the Yukon would join such a movement. It would be a hunters/fishermen paradise with an economy stronger than many independent nations today.

Man, what a knucklehead I am! It is the 56th state. I will correct myself buddy!

Holy smokes, that would really make up my mind where I would retire! I am thinking I would be able to find a nice place somewhere close to you Mike, just so's I could handle a few of your Winchesters, once in awhile. Plus, we are sharing the Nosler rifle when I win it, so it will make that a little easier! Scotty

I haven't seen your 300WM in awhile Kelly. That is a great looking rifle! I bet you are really going to like it even more when you get those PT's tuned up. That 4350 you have with 180gr PT's will run 3K easily for you. I know you love your 270, but that big 300 is a great one too!

I hope I am able to come out to Co also. Never hunted there and I would like to make it more common. I appreciate the invite. Let us know when you start loading for those. I don't think you will have a single issue with matching factory ammo. You have a bunch of good rifles. Your loads will match them and probably exceed your expectations. Scotty

According to the nice lady at Remington, that .300 was supposed to have come out of the custom shop. What little info she had without pulling records stated a small upgrade in wood and finish both on the stock and metal. Granted I've got my doubt's its true, but when you compare both in good light that .300 just looks better all the way around. As you know I made my longest shot on an elk with that .300 and it does a good job. I've just been hunting with that .270 for so long that I unquestionably trust it day in and day out. It looks like hell, but its always done what I asked of it. Feds premium ammo always shoots phenomenal out of it and I just want my reloads to match the accuracy. I only see problems with the .300 as PT's do have a reputation of being finicky sometimes and I will be using Win brass versus the Nosler stuff. Just can't commit myself to paying that much money on brass until I start reloading a ton and figure out what I'm doing.

As to the CO hunt, I know you expressed your interest and I hope we get it done.

Kelly, I would bet good money your load work will be really short. If you already have RL22, with 180gr bullets, you are 3/4's done. I think you will find your combo really quick. I love PT's. They have shot some of the best groups I've ever fired. I use WW brass for the 300WM. Love it. No reason to look for other stuff.

I think the hunt should be doable. It is hard for me to project time off that far out, but right now it looks good. I would be in Heaven out there in your High Country! Scotty

Kelly,
I use to live in Loveland, moved to Tennessee 4-yrs ago. Those Pics are great, looks like Rocky Mountain National Park too. I took alot of pics there, awesome place. Really miss it. Your rifles look nice. Good looking Bull you shot. What Unit did you hunt that year?

Don

Kelly-

A definate welcome Neighbor ! Great looking pics - Elk & Sheep definately two on the tops of my list.
But those last pics.... a Remington without a scope.....????
