New load work up for hunting rifle

I’ve spent way too much of my life cleaning rifle barrels. Best way to avoid carbon build up is to avoid carbon build up. My opinion Boreteck eliminator is a pretty good product. I have gone thru a couple of 16 oz bottles in the last year. The other Bore Teck Products are redundant and I recently got rid of a bottle of Carbon remover and what was left of a small bottle of copper remover.
The eliminator will certainly slow your carbon build up and does a good job with copper, but I don’t want to spend that much time scrubbing carbon. If I want to get to bare metal I was adding Isso to the brush along with eliminator as a carrier. Run that thru the bore 5 or 10 times and you’ll be amazed how dark it gets.
Couple months ago I saw Carbout sitting on the shelf at my local gun store. It was expensive but it does work, even being retired my time has value. Compared to anything else I’ve tried it is a good value.
I clean guns when Catherine has me busy on the farm. Set the rifle up give it a good soaking with Bore Teck. Go mow the lawn or fire up the chain saw or wash a couple windows, till the bottom pasture-what ever my lovely bride needs done. Walk thru the shop periodically and run two or three patches thru the rifle and let it soak.
Some times over night, bore teck you don’t have to worry about.
When I have a little time to devote to the rifle I’ll pull out the Carbout and finish the barrel off. I don’t think I want to leave carb out soaking for too long. It does work.
Witches brew is recommended by Pac Nor for cleaning during the recommended break in process. I havn’t tried it yet but may on my next re=barrel.
I do have some Boreteck eliminator. Might try that again , let it sit for a bit . I ordered a bore scope should ve here tomorrow sometime. That should tell me a lot. Barrel might be nasty for all i know . But its getting a new scope regardless as I think this one might going bad .

I also use BoreTech on our rifles. It works very well and doesn’t stink up the house!

In my 308 I get excellent speed and accuracy with Varget for 150, 165-168 and 180 gr bullets.
For the 150 and 165-168 gr, 46.0 grs is the ticket.

My Nosler M21 308 shot pretty good at 45.0 grs but even better at 46.0 for both 150 gr BT and 165-168 gr BT and ABLR. All shoot well under .5 MOA.

Maby this 43gr load was never that good then lol I will try 44 , 44.5 and 45gr
45 or 46 grains is getting close to the max in my book

I thought I read an article not too long ago that talked about IMR 4064 being the the powder that was used for match ammo in the 308 Win...not entirely sure on that...and if that was with the 168 gr match bullets. 🤔 (Read in passing as I don't handload for the cartridge, but always interesting to learn what the benchrest crowd uses for accuracy.) Others here more knowledgeable about the 308 can correct me if I am not recalling it right.
If correct; Might be another powder to try in your rifle.

That is correct 4064 is an excellent powder in 308 with 168 grain or 175 grain match King unfortunately it is what is used in all military and law enforcement so it has been unavailable for many years now very little bit of it trickles out to the public anymore. Varget he's pretty close in the burn rate and is supposedly more temperature stable

My custom Tika loves 42.5gr Varget with a 168 gr matchking

Might want to try staball match.
Thought about trying that in my new BAR MK4 in just bought. I called hogdon and asked about powders for semiautomatic rifle. He said varget would work and be clean burning i just worry about it making the rifle function properly?
it would be easy metering than a stick powder ... question is how temperature sensitive is it ?. Thats why I like varget
