New rifle!

So I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard 2 Back Country rifle today in 270 Win. Looks great and has the potential to be a real shooter! My plan is to shoot the 150 gr. AccuBond LR's. I am looking at H4831sc based on history with my Dad's 270 win. Doing a little research, I see that RL22 could be a great option. Might even try some 4350 too. Can't wait to load some ammo and get it out on the range! Any advice from you guys on the 270?

I can't add anything you don't already have on deck. Those are three of the best available for the .270.

Not sure if you've considered it, but I'd look at Accurate MagPro, as well. Supposed to be able to achieve 3000fps with a 150gr from a 24" barrel in the 270Win. I suspect 3k would make that ABLR reach far out there. The Accurate data I have shows the same max charge as Nosler #7, but velocity in Nosler #7 is 2913fps, where Accurate's data shows 3k. Either way, it's one to consider if you don't find what you're looking for in H4831 or RL22.

Wow! I love that Back Country a lot. I wanted one of them in a 257 Wby once upon a time. I know if we're looking at loading the 150 ABLRs for the 270 Winchester I would be looking at RL22, IMR7828 and MagPro for starters. I might even look at something slow like RL25 as well.

Either way, that rifle has the ability to run the 150 out at around 2900 or better and man, that is going to be a killer a long way out! Good luck with it and please post some groups.

That is a nice rig, congrats! Could you tell me what the real world weight of that is for the bare rifle and all up? An estimate would be fine. I have someone I know looking for one, and that looks like it could be a good fit. They like my UltraLightweight MKV, but don't want to pay the price for it : ) Thanks

Ramshot Magnum looks pretty good to for heavier bullets in the good old 270 Win according to their data. Just another option if needed, I plan on trying it with 150's and the 160 gr Partitions when we get ours.

Rl22 or h4831is what worked for me and a friends 270 with 150g bullets.

My rifle preferred rl22 and was tad faster, bout 50fps I recall. 2900-2950fps 22" bbls.

My .270 Win Model 70 has worked really well with 130 Partitions and 55.0 grs of IMR 4350 for 40 years. I have killed a pile of deer with this load.

My dad shoots the 130 AccuBond out of his with H4831sc. Shoots great! Thats the "problem" with this gun. Too many good options to choose from!

Here ya go. 59 gr. of H-4831SC with the 150BT. This is a max load. Accuracy is there with that powder in my rifle. The 140BT shoots real nice as well H-4831.
