New Toy

DrMike, that is a nice looking rifle.
We seem to have the inside track on these things.

Blessings,
Dan

I've noticed that Mike posts about a lot of stuff that I didn't know I needed until I read his posts.

nshunter,

I found this back in the Maritimes. There were several that I found, and most in good shape and at a fair price. I couldn't ask for much more.

Was it from the gun dealer in McAdam? He had a few for sale over the past year. There was an auction in Windsor a few months ago of mostly special production lever action winchesters, lots of real nice old guns that had never been fired, still kicking myself for not going!

This was from a dealer in Fredericton, NB. I had dealt with another gentleman in NB who had three, but we could work through the logistics. I've been talking more recently with a gentleman in ON about a .307. I prefer those w/o the cross bolt safety, though I might consider such if the price was right.

Okay, I have another Model 94 chambered in .307 Winchester on the way. It should be here in a week or so. I rather enjoy the cartridge. Now, to get out into the mountains with this rifle.

I know, the disease is quite advanced. And when my wife sees what I've done, it may prove terminal. I've tried explaining that this is our retirement, except I can't bring myself to part with any of these fine firearms.

Hey Mike if the wife and I make it up there soon, I can go to Corlanes and then over to your place where the majority of the rifles are kept in BC  I think I am going for testing to see if I have caught that same disease 8)

Blessings,
Dan

There's a test? Don't let my lady know this. She thinks I'm normal. I tell her, "Nah, I don't have many. You should see Scotty! Or Fotis! Or..." Well, you get the idea.

That is weird, when my wife balks, I say, you should see the rifles Fotis and Mike have!

Fine looking rifle. I know you'll enjoy it. They are very accurate with Leverevolution bullets in the 160 gr. I tried the retirement investment excuse on my wife already. Good Luck

The "retirement investment" strategy did not work very well on wife either, not before or after I retired! Save that for use only during desperate times.

You fellows are making me feel desperate. Here comes the retirement investment argument.

Guys my wife still believes that I have 1 rifle
I keep my gun room locked and the key hidden and I only bring up one rifle at a time when she asks how many of those do you have I politely say just this one dear
If I bring a couple, I tell her that I am just doing some load developments for a few friends and I needed their rifles here to make sure that the bullets fit

PS. I will be married 37 years this May 3rd do you think she still believes me

Blessings,
Dan

Dream On! No offense, Dan, but my wife has eye's in the back of her head and she doesn't even really care if I have 12 long guns and 7-8 revolvers. This despite the fact that they are all Mauser clones with black walnut stocks and scopes and shotguns. MY issue is that I am OCD (neat type) and that makes inventory an I.D. proposition 4+4+4 in my safe. She does not have combination to the safe because she keeps loosing it but it is in my Probate Will copy.

She has been really good about it, especially since I had lung cancer et cetera and wants me to have a hobby. However, getting a gun in without a requisite gun out, would be hard. With spread and makeup at different venues and times of the year, seemingly driven by these external influences she is a sweetheart about wanting me to go to the gun-club and shoot.

I went back a measured the groups fired with this rifle. The highest charge with RL15 gave a group of 1.31 inches, which is not too shabby for a Model 94. However, I've observed far better accuracy consistently with any of the .356s that I've owned. Consequently, a charge one grain under max with IMR4895 (the old standard for 308 sized cases) was 0.43 inches. I'll make it a point to test this charge again with this rifle, and with another that should be here sometime next week.

Sounds pretty good Mike. I know you will have it tweaked like a BR rifle.. Was that with PT's or DC's?
