I got a new toy yesterday afternoon...like I needed yet another. A Savage Predator Hunter Max1 in 243 Winchester. I mounted an old but super Leupold M8 16X on it with Signature Zee rings. Chomping at the bits to get it out to the range Monday. I went to the gun show today and picked up more powder for it, mostly IMR 4350 and RL-19. As always you're a little anxious to see how she shoots.

Congrats on the new toy ! Any toy is like having a birthday !! That is an interesting scope and I bet it will stack them in small holes on top of each other

This is my first Savage and I hope this one lives up to what I've read. A call from the LGS about a transfer that's arrived or seeing the UPS truck pull up out front you feel like you did when you got that first B-B gun for Christmas. It's like the old adage, "The only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys".

I wish I could find some Accubonds.

Sweet looking rifle.
I'm waiting on a Savage I ordered. From what I hear they are the most accurate out of the box rifle going. I think you will be happy.

Congratulations on the new Savage. I am sure that you will find it very accurate.

Blessings,
Dan

Very nice. I have one but it is a lefty and also a 260 Remington. It does not disappoint when it comes to accuracy, the gun has a nice feel to it when shooting especially prone with a bipod. Recently I have installed a Leupold 8x40 AO which I'm sure you could appreciate seeing that you have a fixed 16X Leupold. I really like your set up, mine has Vortex split rings (which I believe are made by Warne) but I'm a fan of the Burris Zee Rings.

Last fall, it is wearing a Burris FF II 3-9x40 which works but the 8x40 has a turret which is a great since this is my long rage deer/predator gun.

I just got back from the range and must say I'm very impressed with this rifle. Out of the box, new unfire formed brass and got some great groups. These are but two of them. Looks like a keeper for sure. These groups were the first two waiting perhaps ten minutes between the strings. Info on target...hope it's readable. I had just bore sighted it prior to the groups.

My loads with RL-19 were similar with 45 gr having the potential of being the best. One flier out of the four broke up an otherwise .296" group but I can live with it. I'll try again next time. No pressure problems with none of the loads even though it was 86 degrees here.

I do believe those will work just fine. You do have a keeper in that rifle.

Very nice, they all seem to group like that. It will be easy to find some fantastic loads with it.

Apparently, my old Leupold M8 16X scope is still functioning as designed. While not the brightest scope on the block, it still delivers. I was going to replace it with a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X but I think I may keep her around awhile.

Now, if I can just find some 80-90 Ballistic Tips, or Accubonds.

I've been thinking about this rifle, and this thread is not helping.......... Plus a Hunter Ed instructor discount makes it more enticing

You know you need one. Go ahead, don't fight the feeling...just reach out...

That discount sure sweetens the deal, Mike.

Surely you jest! Most assuredly you are referencing someone else. Still, that would be almost impossible to resist. What a perfect rifle to hold for Jackson to use in just a few years! Very sweet deal.

Just imagine the look in his eyes when he sees the bullet hole blossom on the target or the spray of blood in the scope when he makes his first kill with it. There is nothing like seeing that look of joy and awl in their eyes when they have accomplished something their dad has taught them. Along with the pride of accomplishment, There is no amount of money on earth that is worth more than that look in their eyes.
