Well, the boy and I were able to do a little rabbit hunting while home visiting the family this year. It was a blast! Had a great time with my son and my cousin. We hunted two mornings and ended up with 7 rabbits, not a big take, but alot of fun. My boy had a great time jump shooting them little rabbits. It was kinda nice to be able to talk as loud as you wanted, make as much noise as you wanted to and just have fun. He said it was payback for having to be so quiet in the deer stands this year.

Oh, and while visiting a local gun shop, where I started this RADD, my daughter found something she liked a little. Might be a great Birthday gift for her!

It was a great time. We didn't have any dogs, just jumped on brush piles to get the rabbits out. The boy did try to take a few partridge, but came up empty. They are tough to hit though, even for a seasoned hunter! Scotty

Scotty

Looks like you did well with the rabbits! The little pink rifle matches your daughter's shirt.

Happy New Year!

Can't beat time afield with family, Scotty! Glad you had a good time, and I hope you enjoy the rabbit stew! (Or are those fricasseein' rabbits?)

I left the rabbit meat with my cousin. We had to split and get back to Va before we could get em cooked up. It was a great time. Love to hunt small game and its pretty fun with the kids. Scotty

When we go back to the ranch at Christmas time, we used to hunt Jack Rabbits. Before Grandfather died, we went every year.

During the winter the rabbits hang around old buildings and bunch up. One spot south of Hinsdale, there is an old homestead, with several buildings still standing.

My Grandfather and I would drive out there, and drive right into the barn, and close the door. When we showed up all the rabbits would run away. We would just sit in the pickup for 30 minutes or so, and the rabbits would all come back. Then we would get out, real quite, and I would climb to the hayloft. And Grandfather would man the ground floor. He had more doors and widow openings then I did, but the elevation made up the difference. He had to sneak up to the opening, so as not to spook them. We would shoot a gun full at a time, with taking a little break when reloading, to let them come back in range. Quite a bit of difference in killing power between bullets. Takes a good .22 round to kill a Jack at 100 yards, with one shot Some winters we would kill 200 rabbits in a couple trips.

Another good time is spotlighting them at night. More grandchildern would partisipate in this. Had to watch where they were shooting. All the rabbit were picked up and gave to a fur farm, for cat food.

Looks like fun Scotty. Nice to see you are getting your daughter hooked with this incurable disease! Great to see the family out there having fun! When I was real young I remember going with my father and his friend checking their trapline. We had such a great time hunting rabbits. Nice job.

That's a good haul, Scotty. It is great practise, for sure. It makes me want to get out and shoot a few snowshoe hare.

I had a blast. I love to hunt everything. Wished I could fish with a firearm, it would probably interest me more!

You guys did great on the rabbit hunt. That birthday gift will get you a kitchen pass or two for the range  We can work on that hunting fish thing! I have an idea
