Just to let you know I have been attempting to get 200gr ABs and have been told there is no such thing.
I emailed Nosler and they advised that they are going to start production at the end of this April:).
I asked when they would be in Canada and was told that they are not sure if the Canadian Wholesalers have any on order.
I checked with the local dealer here and Daryl advised that he will make sure that his supplier orders them :)

Blessings,
Dan

Good luck Dan, but man, with the way the 225 AB's shoot and the speed I get out of them, it'll be hard to mess with em! Good luck though buddy.. Hope you are able to score some. You should be able to make them sing in your rifle!

Ah, yes, Scotty. These will be for another 35 calibre rifle, however. My Whelen will likely continue to digest 225 and 250 grain slugs.

225's for me, I'm done messing around with loads, seems all I did last year up till now. If the 225 won't kill it nothing will. I'm right behind you Scotty @ 2677 fps with my load.

Don

I too am staying with the heavier 250 gr loads in my 35 Whelen. Tiugh to argue with a 250 gr PT at 2581 fps.

The 200 gr AB should be a screamer in your 35 Whelen. Hope you get them soon.

Yes I was thinking if you could retain accuracy you might be able to get close to 3000fps.
But we will see, I will likely use the 225gr AB and maybe build something for deer. I have my 270 win that is my best friend  but a 6.5 X 284 has always interested me

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks Dan, I want to try them on a mountain goat this summer or fall so hopefully they will come out soon. As a side note Hodgdon has some data for IMR 8208 XBR that looks pretty good for the 35 Whelen and it is also supposed to be temperature stable, that's the powder along with Varget I hope to use with the 200's.

Boy with all of this 35 this and 35 that, my heads starting to spin. You guys are keeping all the tooling busy for those big old slugs for those broad hipped Whelens, and them boys at Nosler are forgetting all about those of us who like our projectiles small, meaning that magical mythical 90 gr. AccuBond! BK can you back me up here buddy!
David

Hey sometimes big is better  we can not always generate the speed of some of the smaller projectiles. But when it does get there it hits a ton

Blessings,
Dan

jerry, I picked up some reloader 15 that I am hoping will work well. Supposedly it is the cats meow for the 225gr.

Dan

It's one of the good ones for the Whelen too. Looking forward to seeing your gun soon.

jerry, that makes 2 of us :? . It is hard to keep waiting. I am told the rifle has been completed but there is a problem getting the Leupold VX-6. I think I am going to hold out for a while cause if I don't get it now I might never.
My wife & I are planning on picking the rifle up from RMR  making a mini holiday as we have never seen that area before.
My son is picking up his new Diesel tomorrow and I may use it to break it in :)

Blessings,
Dan

Gerry,

Thanks for the tip on the IMR 8208 XBR. I've used this very successfully in the .308 and the .358, but I hadn't thought of looking at it in the 35 Whelen. I'll have to check this out.

You`re welcome Mike I never really paid attention to it but when I found out it was temperature stable the gears started working in my head :) Hodgdon is usually a bit conservative but they still list a 200 gr going 2802 fps and a 250 gr at 2515 fps. Not too shabby.

QL projects slightly higher velocity and about 1.5 grains more charge as max. As I said, I never considered it, but I will check it out. A quick check shows it might be a good powder to consider in the 350 RM as well.

Thanks Mike that sounds even better I`ll keep that in mind when the new Whelen gets done. Should work like a charm in the 350 RM as well.

Those are actually very good numbers for the Whelen...

Scotty,

The velocities in the 350 RM mirror those of the 35 Whelen when using IMR 8208 XBR. Interesting stuff.

I do not under stand the rational for a 358/200gr AccuBond. Since it is not built for the short action 358win or 350rem. For the whelen or larger 35's its moving backwards. The 225/250 have it beat.

Even the 358 win desrves another 225gr bullet built for it the 225gr PT is great but we need a cost effective bullet with better SD than the 200gr so a 220/225gr spizter or protected point that will work in either the 358win or 350rem and all other larger 35's seems the way to go.

I would simply use my 270win if I wanted excesive meat damage on deer and for elk and moose I want 225grs and up. I chorney the factory Rem whelen 200gr cl psp at 2670fps its works to say special on deer and its accurate and cheap. I do not reload the 200gr in the whelen cause I want more SD. And at nearly the same velocity the 225gr does it.
