Well, he may not connect on deer, but he can surely harry grouse. Noah is feeling somewhat vindicated today. He tagged two grouse--both with head shots. Either required two shots, however. He gives them a warning shot, and then he pops them in the head. Never saw the likes of it. Talk about a sporting chance! I didn't know whether to call him "Dead Eye" or "Fair Play," but I settled on "Two Shot." He said he sort of likes the name. He did well. I'm proud of him.

Nice birds, You sure can't call him sure shot, one shot one kill

Good job Noah, they are as fine a eating bird as you can get (y). Hopefully you will get a crack at that Bull Moose. Head shots on ruffies a typical lefty !!
Good on you DrMike, these hunting trips will be with Noah for a life time.

Blessings,
Dan

Dan is the missed first shot warning shot also typical for lefties :?:
I just can't help myself today it's been raining for three days and nights and I'm thinking about building an Ark. Glad I don't live on the coastal plains or the Ark would have already been built.

Just to nice to see a young man with game in one hand a rifle in the other and a smile in between. Yup- nice. CL

Good job! We sprinkle a little creole seasoning on em and cook em over the fire at deer camp if we bag any, good eatin!

Rodger, I think the first shot was to get them flying and then in the head to anchor them. A lefty does like a bit of a challenge !!

Blessings,
Dan

Well, Noah called on Pa to help him prepare the grouse for a fine dinner this evening. The meat was removed from the breast and dipped in flour before browning in butter. The breast halves (with one of my own added) were then placed in a casserole which was topped with a mix of chicken broth, Greek style yogurt and Frank's Red Hot Sweet Chili. This was placed in the oven at 350 F for an hour. We placed some red potatoes (fresh from a parishioners garden) in the oven as well to accompany the grouse. The meal, simple and elegant, was grouse in sweet chili sauce, baked potatoes and sweet corn. It went over quite well--nothing was left. Noah, his little sister Sara, my good lady and myself polished everything off. This was all topped off with some fresh baked pumpkin muffins. Noah and Sara then wanted to build a fire in the fire pit. So we sat outside by the fire pit enjoying hot chocolate or coffee until it was time for the grandchildren to go home. Noah is asking if we can go grouse hunting tomorrow after church. Hmmmm. I just got the truck washed, but probably. (y)

Sounds like a great meal and dessert, sitting by the fire sipping hot chocolate tops it off nicely. I would agree grouse hunting tomorrow would be an excellent idea.......

It sound like Pa & Grandma had just about the perfect evening :). Family sitting around the fire sipping hot chocolate and coffee just made it a little better!
You are blessed my friend!!
PS. Good luck tomorrow afternoon, I am sure another 1/2 dozen ruffies would make for a great day. Have you filled that bear tag ?

Blessings,
Dan

Passed on another blackie earlier this week, Dan. Curious little creature kept peeking at me from around a corner until it got tired of peek-a-boo and wandered off into the bush. Closer than the one you and I saw, but not quite as big.

DrMike, You are truly blessed my grandchildren are always too busy doing other things. Though I jest a lot sometimes Noah is doing a great job and your teaching him well and keeping the fire of desire to hunt a live. Keep it burn bright. (y)

Noah is quite the shot but then again he learned from the right person. Enjoy the grouse, had many of them for dinner in days past.
