Node help for the 300 Norma Magnum

It helps when there is load data to work with but my gun shot everything I put in it under 5/8" even though it's an improved version and I had to improvise. I shot 208 Amax's, 215 Bergers, and 230 Bergers with H-1000, N 570, and R-33

The necks of a loaded measure .337-.338. The Forester F/L die gets them down to .3360". I have a Redding Bushing Neck die, but I have not used it yet. I have a .336 and a .337 on hand but no .335, only a .332 is my next smaller size.

I have the 215 Berger Hybrid targets on hand but in this case I'll just use the 230's. I'm curious to see if the 230 Hybrid OTM Tactical bullets will shoot just as well? Those are what I used to break in the barrel. The thicker jacket may or may not help with how they preform of game IMO, but I'll need to test them first just to see if they're pencil pushers or not?

Thanks for the help!

Kevin,
Nice shooting and great load.
In case you care, I calibrated QuickLoad to what your actual burn rate seems to be based on your chrono readings.
I attached it here.
Wait until you see where the barrel time puts you after calibrating it to your batch of powder.

That's a cool cartridge and what a hammer with a 230 grain bullet! Talk about smacking something hard!

Thank you very much Dewey for the QL data and all the help running all those other ones. I'm Happy when things fall into place like that with zero work up. Hopefully my neck can withstand the recoil prone? Those were all shot with a TBAC 338BA suppressor. It really takes all the muzzle blast away but even at 16.5 lbs. the gun still recoils pretty well.

Thanks again Dewey.

So Scotty, pretty impressive tossing 230 grain pills at roughly 2909 Grain from the muzzle. Should really shine way out there.
Thanks

So I decided to measure the last target, Zero the Scope and test it with the Factory Sako bipod of the bench with a rear bag. Spot on, and went out to pound some steel at 445 yards and 272 yards, all first round hits.

Here's the 100 yard target off the bipod at the bench. This is one of the smallest 3 shot groups I've shot with a Super Magnum, it's in the .1's.

Kevin,
That's some fine shooting.
I believe whatever you did I'd keep doing
Congrats!

Yep... That should handle a poor old elk just fine. Or whatever else you point it at.

Thanks Scotty and Dewey.

So I just went to clean the barrel and would you believe there was actually noting to remove! Not sure how that could be but only a little carbon and nothing else? I looked down the barrel were I saw all the copper before and nothing? I changed cleaners and still nothing, so I wiped it clean and oiled it up for the next time.

So I had cleaned the barrel when it arrived from GAP, they shot 2 proof load though it. I then shot it and cleaned it for the next 7 rounds which showed a lot of copper, and honestly took some work to remove it. I then shot 3 rounds down the barrel, and shot 5 more the next day. Put together another 2 to test at 86.0 and (3) at 83.5, still no cleaning. Shot another 5 at the bench and went out to shoot another 5 at steel, and still no cleaning until now! That's 23 rounds down the barrel since I had cleaned it once each time for the first 7 (actually 9) rounds and now no copper in the barrel.... that's weird? But great since I hate cleaning a gun that take forever, and this one, nothing to remove and still hammers them into the ten ring! WOW, I'm so glad I didn't sell this gun!

I told you to stop cleaning. lol

Good shooting. That caliber just wants to shoot it seems.

Very enviable. A shooter can take pride in such a group. Congratulations.

As much as it pains me to say it, not cleaning the bores on the rifles has been better than cleaning them after every shooting. It is hard to break the habit after about 20 years of scrubbing the blueing off rifles..

Yeah we would sign out our team target rifles and take them home when we would have an inspection so they wouldn't have to be cleaned.

You were so RIGHT Nathan! I got a good chuckle when I read that! Are you aware of the meaning of your name? Seriously though, best advise I've had in a long time. I'm glad I just stopped and started to shoot it, so thanks.
