WOW, seems like the Nosler reloading forum has become more of a FREE Quickload forum then a reloading discussion forum. On the first page alone there are 43 posts with 9 of them being QL requests. What ever happened to paying for for products and services?

Pop's a great help, and I really appreciate it.
Everytime Pop runs a quickload for me, I learn something new, and it makes me want my own copy a little more. But the higher someone prices their product, the lower it moves on my priority list.

Steve4102,

I guess I do not quite comprehend the intent of your post. I cannot come up with any other reason besides "trolling for reactions". :?: If I am incorrect in my judgment, please set the record straight!

Is there any difference between one guy asking others for ideas on their favorite bullet or powder? How about asking someone to verify via a load book they may not have, current data? Or asking your hunting bud to range a deer for ya because he has a lazer range finder and you dont.. Sure it gets old if the same guy keeps asking to borrow your stuff, but I dont think thats the case here..

Am I going to tell any of those folks to pack sand? Or Dangit, give me 5$ before I range that deer for ya.!!! Nope, I'm not, I'll share the information, the published data, my equipment and my experiences I have to help the others I hang with and even those I dont. Otherwise what fun is it having all these neat toys, if you have nobody to play with...

The coolest thing about the folks here on the Nosler board is that it sure seems like everyone is always willing to help or support the others even tho most of us do not know each other beyond the computer screen... I believe the intent of this board is to share information, get ideas, swap lies, make friends and have a good time.. Lets try and keep it that way... 8)

I think Pop has pretty much convinced me the value of that program. But more importantly Pop, even without the "free Quikloads" brings huge value to the board. He always offers assistance, positive comments, conducts himself in a professional manner and simply just sets a great example for all of us to follow...

Me on the other hand, if I am correct in my initial judgment of your post's intent --- Put a cork in it Dude!!

The way I look at it, if POP didn't want to do it, he wouldn't and would say so. Thanks POP.

Steve,
I am not sure where you are coming from either. If my impressions of your intents are incorrect, then I will apologise in advance.

I am in high tech, and intellectual property as well. That includes software. I do not own quickload, but have benefited from Pop's running the program. While i understand that the owner/programmer of quickload has every right to price it and to set conditions of use, I have not seen that the data generated from the program is protected by license or that it cannot be shared legally. Mostly, data from programs can be shared openly.

At any rate, I will loan out dies, give advice, and help my fellow hunters and reloaders if I have the expertise. And just as i would loan out my reloading manuals and share data from them, I don't see a problem with the sharing of that information. There remains a lot of value in owning the program, including the anytime use and the ability to easily check on how different inputs affect the loads (ie OAL, barrel length, etc...)Using the data as a starting point or input makes sense, but the program does not give tested, most accurate loads, but rather theoretical inputs, so it does not replace the various books that I have.

I remain grateful to the others on this forum, and Pop in particular.
Regards,
Hardpan

I'm not sure myself. I'm just surprised that with the huge amount of QL data being handed out free on this forum that the author of QL has not asked it to stop as he has on other forums. Copyright laws etc.
I know I have given QL data out in the past and I will probably continue to do so, but I also feel that like I'm stealing.

I purchased QL because I liked what I saw on forums like this. I think that posting QL data now and then is a great marketing idea and we can all can benefit from it. Prospective customers can see up close and personal what QL is all about. I also feel that there is a limit to a great marketing tool and simple theft.

Seems like good advertising for the Quickload product. After seeing how it works, I quickly purchased it so I could sit up late at night running all kinds of scenarios.
POP is merely sharing load data, he's not distributing illegal copies of the software. I personally don't see any harm in sharing data, although some other forums have made an issue of it.

A few years ago I posted some load data out of my Speer 13 manual. I scanned it , copied it and posted it. I was quickly reprimanded by the forum Adm. This was a violation of copy right laws and it was not allowed. I was told it was OK to post load data from manuals, it was not OK to copy and paste the actual data page. Which is what we are doing here at Nosler Reloading.

What do you think Nosler would do if I copied their manual and posted all the pages here on this forum for all the world to see free of charge?

Thats what is wrong with this country to much greed if someone gets something for free there always going to be someone that does not like it and make a big stink about it so who cares about free QL info its very nice of Pop and everyone eles that has it to share with us when I have the money I'll buy it.

It is on my list to purchase but may be awhile. It is only on my list because of some of the things I have seen here. I do shoot several wildcats that are will not be in the data base and would like to know more about how to get the most out of the program, guess there are some things one has to experiance for themselves. Keep up the good work and keep going.

I bought QL because of the info that I saw POP generating. I am also more than willing to share it but POP usually beats me to everything so I don't worry about it. If QL was my baby and people were sharing it I would try to think of it as a sort of free advertising. It is fairly spendy, but it provides hours upon hours of intertainment, and many more options than POP is posting. I would have not known about QL or bought the program if POP had not shared some info.

Thanks POP

I know I've asked for it a couple times so maybe I'm the one to blame??

I would like to own it as well as others, when I have the extra money because it does several things.

I usually consult a few different loading manuals, a couple different reloading sites, and my own data before I ask POP for QL data, most the time.

I'm sure the author of QL would care. As for what is wrong with this country, that's really not what this is about, but since you brought it up. The reason we in such deep sheet with this new Socialist Regime is that to many Americans want everything free. They want everything handed to them because it is owed to them. They want free health care, free this free that and they want the other guy to pay for it. Similar to what is going on here.

You mean something like we can find here?

No, I mean something like this here.

If we started plastering Nosler's manual pages all over the net they would get pissed pretty fast.

If they dropped the price fm $149.00 to $49.00, most of us would probably own it.

Yup, and if they dropped the price a nice new Nosler Rifle we would all own one as well. That doesn't give us the right to go out and steal one cuz it cost to much now does it. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it, but don't steal it.

The least you guys could do is do your QL request via the PM function. That way Hartmut and QL will leave you and Nosler Reloading alone.

Good idea.... Now this is going nowhere so let's end this. Thank you Gentlemen. :!:

I checked with our lawyer on this just to see. The s/w contains a copyright that means that you cannot resell it, cannot copy it, cannot make a backup without permission. In fact, you have a license to use it. But, the data generated by a program is not typically under copywrite protection. Since formulas are not posted, they are likely a trade secret at best, but with decent measurements, an engineer can replicate a formula, but if they used the program to reverse engineer the formula, then that would be a violation. Also, I do not own the s/w so i am not sure what license agreements were signed.

Bottom line, i doubt seriously that postiing data from Quickload is a copyright or intellectual property violation. Anymore than posting data from a known excel spreadsheet would be a violation...

Books are different. The manuscript is almost always copyrighted, with all rights reserved, making the post earlier a violation. BTW, we tend to violate the trademarks far more than the copyrights, but since we are individuals and damage is almost impossible to show or prove, there is no reason to prosecute.
