One more sleep

Dan said we have a few minor difficulties, I think he will manage to survive after the surgery. The fisticuffs weren't so bad, but my wife's husband is allergic to blows about the head and body. Seriously, we did manage to do the initial break-in. Here is Dan with his rifle.

Two blind guys trying to bore sight can be quite a sight, but Dan managed to pull the trigger nevertheless.

Unfortunately for Dan, there was a slave drive compelling him to stay at the hard tasks of cleaning said rifle after each shot.

He breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled the trigger for the final time, knowing that we would finally be able to leave.

There was about an inch of snow when we first arrived at the range, and it was snowing heavily. By noon, temperature was up to about 3 degrees. The day was calm most of the time. I measured about 1km/hr gusts with mostly calm winds. In all, a great day pulling the trigger.

David, how well do you know Mike he loves having a angle on me
I know that he had a few things that had to get done this afternoon so he will have them as soon as he can.
When finding the paper I shot 3 shots with factory Remington 250gr and put 2 of the 3 bullet in one hole:) now it was only @ 25 yards but it has potential
The Leica can make you forget about a lot of other scopes real quickly.

Blessings,
Dan

Nice looking gun and the bolt is on the proper side as well I might add :) What were the specs on it again Dan?

Dan,
I guess you won't have to much trouble deciding which gun to take hunting this year! Congratulations on a fine rifle!

First things first. Mike I want to thank you my friend your knowledge is something pretty special but your hospitality and friendship mean even more :)
gerry the lady has a PacNor SS super match barrel with a 1-14 twist & she is powder coated. It has a defiance action with a tinhorn bolt assembly. The stock is a MacMillan Hunter, pillar bedded and it has a H & S clip assembly. On top are light weight Talley aluminum one piece base and rings and ontop of that is a Leica 4.5-14 X 42 scope with a 30mm tube
Now to Mike  Bud the wife and I went for a drive after supper north and went to end of pavement saw 4 mulie doe made a u turn came to a 4 way stop Sweetwater Rd, turned east and approximately a 1/4 mile east on north side a young black bear was feeding in the grain field. I watched him for about 10 minutes and the wife learned how to use binoculars. I think you would have had bit of a tough time to getting to him as it was real open but your 280 would sure scared the heck out of him or you might have had to give me a call to help you load him

Blessings,
Dan

Very nice looking rifle! That scope sure looks sharp. I had the chance to look at a couple of Lieca's last summer and they sure are nice!

I'm glad you guys enjoyed your time.

Dad! Very nice shooting buddy! That rifle looks excellent and the Leica looks very nice on that! What a hunting rifle. Gotta say I am pretty envious of that rig. I do think its odd though, seems like your shooting from the wrong side of the rifle!

I am looking forward to seeing how you make out with the 200 and 225 AB's Dan. Since Mike hooked me into QL, I see those 200 AB's would be pretty fearsome bullets in the Whelen. Darned near 338 speeds for sure.

Glad you had such a good time with Mike. Hope to catch up with you all in the future.

Any time my friend just PM me or I will send you my email address.
Hope that someday you can get up here for a visit :) you would have the time of your life. He is a great host:)
Maybe on the way by you could stop in and we could spend a day or two visiting. All you have to do is set a date!!

Blessings,
Dan

Pretty exciting I'm getting ready to break-in my new lady. Good thing I don't have to get rid of one!

That is excellent, which rifle to have that is almost at that stage?

Blessings,
Dan

Very nice Dan. Looks great and I highly doubt that collection of components will do anything but satisfy you.

What does that rig weigh all loaded up?

Very nice looking rifle Dan! The fact you had Mike to go shoot with for the initial shots had to be a plus  . My son shoots from the "wrong" side as well, so I know how hard it is to find rifles in calibers that we want.

Tell me what your impressions are of the Defiance action. I have one coming for a build that will be done later this summer. Enjoy!

Yes please! I don't know if I'll go through with it, but I could see a few builds on that action.

My impression of a number of rifles built on the Defiance action is that it is very smooth and serves as the basis for great accuracy.

I have only fired my rifle 10 times :) first impressions are exactly what Mike stated very smooth. I have little doubt that I will be seeing sub .5 moa with this set up.
I know the young smith in Regina and the couple I talk to at Corlanes think that they are the action of the future.
I will keep you posted once I can work up a load. I am hoping for 2600 or a little better with accuracy as well. I am really looking forward to getting those 200gr ABs, as they might be real interesting out of this rifle.

Blessings,
Dan

That 200 AB looks pretty good to me. Probably won't mess around too much with it, but man, it has some potential for a flat shooting bullet in the Whelen.

Dan,

We're waiting. Where are the targets? Come on, man, don't keep us hanging on. We need to see that 35 Whelen in action. Summer's rushing past and soon it'll be time to take some big game.
