I did consult some older manuals (Speer 1-14, Sierra 1-5, Nosler 1 ff., etc.). The highest velocity listed for a 110 grain bullet is 2800 fps. Thirty-eight hundred fps for almost any bullet is travelling, especially in a 30-30 Winchester case.

I'm thinking he meant 2,800 fps. Which would be well above "book" loads but probably possible.

3,800 fps... with a 110, that sounds like .300 magnum country, not .30-30 country.

Just for interest sake what did the old Remington 30-30 excelerator rounds run? I here they weren't very accurate, but fast....

Not at all too blunt; the poster had multiple opportunities to admit that he made an incorrect key stroke or to acknowledge that he spoke out of turn. He chose to plant himself firmly in the midst of an absurdity, refusing to provide verification of his source. A troll must live and die by his/her own choice.
 
Between the 243 or the 6.5 Creed I would definitely pick the Creed. Granted, when I visited the UP with my church member ( who grew up there) we only saw two doe...but they were as big as any really big jackass's I ever saw! Not burros either, but Jacks! I know the differences being raised in Texas, ha. A 30-06 looked even better to me than the Creed...those Northern deer are some of the most beautiful deer in God's Creation to me..
 
As big as the northern whitetail gets (some closing in on the 400 lb mark), they still do not grow as big as the Scandinavian moose, of which approx. 100,000 are harvested with the trusty old 6.5 Swede every year.

The 6.5 Creedmoor still gets my vote. And that's no Jack....err...joke! LOL (sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Amen to that.

With today's bullets a 243 can be a very good cartridge on heavier game. I'm not running to hunt elk with one but if my daughter or a younger hunter or whatever could only handle a 243, I feel very confident if they put the bullet in the spot they wouldn't feel handicapped.

The 30-30 can NOT be loaded to that velocity unless you're using pixy dust for powder. :roll:

The 30-30 can NOT be loaded to that velocity unless you're using pixy dust for powder. :roll:

I wonder if you can do like they used to way back in the day for the Palma matches where they would put an empty primed case in a falling block rifle fitted with a false muzzle and load it threw the muzzle like a muzzle loader with paper patched lead bullets and get it up to that velocity with black powder. :roll: :lol: :mrgreen:
